Know-How Exchange : Taglines/Names

It seems to me you want a name that draws on the best qualities of/notions about America.

If you want to market mainly towards kids, then the name also has to be kid accessible.

When I think kids and countries, I often think of animals as symbols, like kangaroos for Australia or pandas for China.

So what animals symbolic of America have a kid friendly feel and don't have other negative or blue associations. there are three that leap immediately to mind: eagles, turkeys and bison/buffalo. Puma's and Bighorn sheep in my view rate a bit below these as distinctively American symbols.

The eagle is too associated with government and military, the turkey..well…is a turkey, delicious but on the dumb side.

So…that leaves us with the Buffalo which conjures us images of strength, ruggedness, freedom, adventure, and wide open spaces. It also happens to be a reasonably well known American city, Buffalo, NY." There is also the iconic buffalo image on old 5 cent coins.

So in the Buffalo we have a good association with the best qualities of America.

But the animal name by itself is not enough. It needs to be paired with another word that communicates what you sell and your corporate attitude…at least for the market.

What about something like:

Buffalo
Jones
Kids Outfitters

In this version I chose "Jones" because in slang terms..to "jones" for something is to greatly desire it…to be in withdrawal pains if you can't get it.

It has the added advantage in riffing off the adventures of another jones from Indiana.

Plus, there is a Buffalo Jones who was also a well known American frontiersman and conservationist (saved the buffalo)…so you've got a green angle. He saved the buffalo, you save kid's fashion.

On the music front, there is an indie band…decent but not well known, named Buffalo Jones (they have a myspace page)…they aren't Buffalo Jones Outfitters…but who knows…with such a name a mutually beneficial relationship might be forged…A Buffalo Jones POS album for the adults might be good for both of you.
