Name & Tag Line Counseling/therapy Business

Posted by Anonymous on 250 Points
I'm starting a new counseling and therapy business in Thibodaux, Louisiana, and I need a new name and a catchy tag line. I was thinking HOPE Counseling or Hope, Help, Healing. But is that too overdone? I googled and found an AIDS non-profit site in Fla with the same name, but that's not a big deal. Something that conveys hope and a fresh start for potential clients.

    What type of counseling/therapy?
    For what type of person?
Specializing in what type of problem/ailment?
    Long-term or short-term therapy?

Finally, what will set you apart from your fellow therapists?

As a minimum, consider: Thibodaux Therapy Center. It's not glamorous, but it says what you do and where you're located. Your tagline can mention your specialties.

Thank you for your response. Currently I see mostly adolescents (self esteem issues, behavior problems, teen pregnancy) and women (abuse, pregnancy, relationships). I eventually will get more involved in eating disorders treatment and infertility counseling. It'll be pretty broad but specialized in a variety of areas if that makes any sense. Mostly short-term (less that 6 mths) therapy.

Not sure what will set me apart. Mostly that I'm fairly young yet have a variety of experience. Also am currently doing in-home treatment.

I hesitate to use the word "Center" because for now it'll be just MOI. Also, do you prefer the word counseling or therapy? I'm a licensed clinical social worker, and either term is technically appropriate.

Surprisingly, the more specialized you make your business, the easier it is to market to those people. So, if your desire is to work with women and girls (if your adolescents are mostly girls), then that's a good start. You could be: Women's Counseling Center of Thibodaux (or, simply Thibodaux Women's Counseling if you prefer not to have the word "center").

A name like "HOPE Counseling" or "Hope, Help, Healing" may work, but it doesn't immediately tell the person who you help or how.

If you're thinking it's just going to be you, why not make it simply:
    Kim Thompson, LCSW
Specializing In Women's and Girl's Issues

I agree Jay. Thanks for your input. I have a pretty solid referral source for adolescents with behavioral issues, but most are guys. I don''t want to count anyone out, especially now as I''m just beginning. I currently do go by my name (Kim Thompson, MSW, LCSW) as the actual business name. I guess I could keep it at that for now? And then later come up with a Center name if I add others. I was just thinking that I want to capture a cool name now so someone else doesn''t steal it. Plus, I''m going to build a web site, and I was going to buy the web address to match the new name. Do people choose names that start with "A" anymore just so they can be at the top of the listing?

I doubt that names starting with A are selected any more than those starting with X, Y or Z. The names that are most often clicked are those that suggest or contain words that indicate a specific and compelling benefit for the prime target audience.

If you're a pregnant teen in the area who needs help, you'd be more inclined to click on "Thibodaux Teen Pregnancy Center" than "Louisiana Center for Hope." And if you're a male with behavior issues, you'd be more inclined to click on "Thibodaux Better Behavior NOW!" than either "Thibodaux Teen Pregnancy Center" or "Louisiana Center for Hope."

So your best bet is to come up with a name that's as specific as possible for your prime target. Second choice is to stay very general (e.g., your name) and segment your audience right on the home page, so each person can click on the specific issue that's most relevant for them.

The other thing you need to consider is how your target audience will find you (or your website). What's the marketing plan? Having a website (or even a cool name) won't do you much good if nobody ever sees it. Your best approach may be a series of highly targeted landing pages, with the homepage serving simply as a segmentation vehicle for anyone who somehow trips across the homepage by accident.

So are you saying that I could just stay as Kim Thompson, LCSW and use a tag line something like Counseling for Adolescents, Women, and Families? then on the web site, haev a general home page. Then have bars where they can click to get mroe information on Adolescent Therapy, Family therary, Therapy for Women, etc?
