Clever Theme Needed For Trucking Company Meeting

Posted by charles.stannard on 500 Points
So we are having an annual kickoff business meeting next Tuesday to start off our fiscal year and I’m in charge of running/coordinating most of it. The president wants me to come up with a theme for the meeting – something along the lines of “this is our year” or something motivational to kick off the year right… I need a theme.....something like "Life in the Fast Lane"?

I also need a 3-5 minute video clip of something funny, business, office related....any ideas? Kind of an icebreaker....

Finally - I need some theme music to play during the meeting - motivational, Rocky, Eye of the Tiger type stuff....

Thanks for your help.

Are you looking for a basic "hype" message (i.e., simple entertainment) or are you looking for something with "teeth" (a message that will resonate and perhaps be a repeatable mantra for your upcoming business year)? If it's the latter, then we'll need a lot more details about your business and meeting (past/upcoming goals/successes/challenges, why should this year be "better/different", etc.).

HYPE Message please....catchy, trucking themed - just to get the attendees excited and engaged...the "teeth" will be in the material presented.....we've been asked to create the theme and making it entertaining. Thanks.

Why not just go with a theme based on the classic Eagles tune "Life in the Fast Lane". Wouldn't be too difficult to create a funny music video from this song. Have a real lawyer advise you of your obligations to pay any fees if they apply at all.

... written by Joe Walsh, Glenn Frey and Don Henley and recorded by the American rock band Eagles on their 1976 studio album Hotel California.

... also, you could add Sammy Hagar's "I Can't Drive 55" and other similarly themed songs to the mix in creating a parody of the "fast lane" lifestyle as it applies to your brand.

    hope this helps,

    Steve

After 25 years in the Event Production business (now in Online marketing -frying pan to the fire) it still amazes me that people give so little thought to internal meetings. I mean you are just getting ideas now and your meeting is in 5 days!!!

Okay, that being said you should think about a theme that supports the main purpose of the meeting. It doesn't have to be trucking oriented. It should be emotionally oriented. What are the staffs concerns, what is management doing to ensure success, where do you want to point your staff?

If for instance your issues are upcoming Challenges (aren't we all facing that) you might want to use a theme that fits. You mentioned Eye Of The Tiger and it would be a good theme for challenges. I would find something more contemporary.

If you did use the Challenge idea you might want to take some clips from the years of Ice Road Truckers. There are plenty where they face challenges and beat them. You could use a number of clips during your event. This says "Keep on Trucking" without using that hackneyed term.

You can pick some great music from recent songs (older songs as well if your staff age is older) such as “Dog Days are Over”, “No Boundaries Kris Allen, Katy Perry, Firework.
You can search on the net for Motivational sounds. Lots of people have put lists together.

So pick a theme based on the what management wants from the meeting, choose music and visuals that support the theme and you will make an impression. Pick a theme nilly willy and you will have an unforgettable meeting, which most are.
