Video Production Company Needs New Tagline

Posted by Anonymous on 125 Points
I own a video production company called Take 5 Productions. www.take5productions.net When I started the only service I provided was transfering old home movies (Film, Reel to Reel, VHS, slides etc) to DVD. My tag line was then "Keep Memories Alive Instead of in a Box." Now I have expanded and I now provide video editing, DVD duplication, make corporate videos and video tape weddings etc. I need a new tagline. I was thinking something like (and these are very rough ideas):
Transfers to Taping
Your source for everything video
Film to Digital and everything in between
One stop media shop
Full service video services

My biggest concern is that I don't sound like a video store and do people know what "media" is? I appreciate your help and really need a fresh perspective.

Who is your primary target audience? Where are they located? How do they decide which video services they need? How do they decide which supplier to use once they've identified the need?

What exactly do you want to communicate with your tagline? If it's just that you do a lot of different things, then what's wrong with your "rough ideas" for taglines: "Your source for everything video" or "One stop media shop," for example?

Said another way, if we come up with 5 more tagline candidates just like the ones you've come up with, how will you decide on a winner? What criteria will you use to make a selection?

Usually we try to tap into what the target audience says and thinks about a product or service already. Have you talked with your prospective customers? Do you know what words they use when they discuss their media needs? If not, that's the best place to start the process. If so, then we need to know what you've learned from them.

My target audience for movie transfers are ages 40+ men and women who have old home movies and are nostalgic..usually have children. They decide if they need my services by seeing an ad of mine, talking to friends or relatives or they are cleaning out their closets and wonder, "What am I going to do with these home movies?"

My target for wedding is engaged couples within a 40 mile radius of La Crosse, WI . They know they need my services if they want a their wedding videotaped.

My target for business videography are small businesses within a 40 mile radius of La Crosse, WI. They know they want my services if they are looking for a way to increase their sales or they need a way to show how a product works or the benefits of their product etc.

I guess there is nothing wrong with the taglines I came up with, I was looking for another opinion.

The criteria I would use to make my selection is which one one fits my business the best.

My target audiences as seen from the list above is so diverse that if I talk to one group in particular they would probably have a totally different answer than another group. So I need to have a very wide range tagline. A customer with 8mm film to transfer would have a total different perspective than someone who wants to make a video for their business. So asking my customers I am afraid would not give me the answer I am looking for. Because my customers are so diverse. One could be 90 years old and another could be a 20 year old entrepreneur.

As you've identified, different audiences would have different messages. A generic tagline wouldn't clarify who you help or how. Consider a brief menu tagline such as:

    Take 5 Productions
Professional Recordings. Video editing & transfers.

Jay, I think you are on to something there. Thanks.

I will keep this open for a few more days and mull it over and in case someone has something to add.

    Thank you.
