Suggestions, Ideas For Name Of A New Nonprofit Org

Community development through health, and education in developing and underdeveloped areas locally and internationally.

Resuscitation of dilapidated mission hospitals and teaching institutions; providing services of basic health care to specialized needs, preventative medicine etc.
Developing a state of the art hopsital with sub specialist physicians to serve and teach.

Mobile clinics- reaching the remote villages providing surgical and medical treatments -pharmacologic treatments, follow -up care;

Emergency transportation; ambulances, fire fighters etc.

Telemedicine.

Education to include medical schools- physicians and all the paramedical fields -nursing, paramedics, nurse practitioners, field workers, nutritionists, occupational medicine, speech pathologists, pharmacy; etc;

Orphanages, special needs orphanages; homes for the aged; Medical tourism;

Child care facilitis for the employees and locals; English medium schools for children and families; -prevention of child labor and sextrafficking;

A school of language, conversational skills for locals and internationals

Living cottages for employees and families;
Parks and recreation;

Hotels and guest suites for international professors, visitors, patients, missionaries;

Churches

Vocational education and training,Adult education programs;technical support programs; entrepreneurship training; agriculture, animal husbandry; poultry farms; fisheries; small business development and training etc.

Water recycling; garbage recycling -production of electricity;

Empowering the locals, by education, personal involvement, and ownership and employment; for self sustainability.

This has much depth and width and will partner with many other organizations to succeed, to include accademic institutions locally and internationally, industries in the various areas, other non-profit organization with similar interests, in a few aspects or multiple areas of interest. This is very duplicatable in many parts of the world...

I am having trouble with creativity for a name- should this be an acronym or a word with a meaning that is understood internationally, or simply a pronouncable word, with no meaning? any language?

What should the websites be? the tag line?

A lack of a name is preventing us from moving forward!! The need is imminent. The fundraising process is also impeded as a result. the initial project is to start in India.

The human resources are plenty in India -the intelligence, the time, the willingness to participate,volunteers, manpower etc. They are simply seeking dependable and trustworthy leaderhip with a vision. The support is immense, though this is at an embryonic stage of conception of ideas and thought.

The first project and its success is crucial.

Thanks a ton for any ideas, your input and most importantly,your time.

    Is your non-profit located in India?

    From your description, it's hard for me to quickly grasp your mission. In a sentence or two, can you synthesize the major vision of the non-profit (not a laundry list of who you want to partner with, but who specifically you intend to serve and why)?

    There are lots of non-profits around the world. What will make yours' attractive to donors? Sponsors? Partners?

    Since it's unlikely you'll attempt to achieve all your goals in one shot -who will you focus on in year 1? Year 2? Year 3? Why?

    Do you have any historical associations with other organizations that we need to know about?

    Thanks Jay,

    The NP will be established in the U.S. Looking into the legal aspects of opening up a chapter in India or simply an account for the transfer of funds etc.

    It is providing health and education to the poor, underprivileged, illiterate; in the remote, underserved areas.

    Community development through education and health. Entrepreneurship. The approaches; the simplicity, the practicality. the reproducibility will differentiate us

    First, the rebuilding of an existing non functional, physically demolished hospital; providing state of the art equipment; physicians, nurses and staff;lab/Xray; pharmacy. and making it operational and functional.

    Simultaneously, developing an outpatient clinic and mobile clinics. with physicians, nurses, pharmacists, etc.

    Development of the land offered, around the hospital. Build Living quarters, schools, day cares, to attract employees on a long term basis;

    Meals for the hospital, hotels, day cares, hostels, nursing homes will be provided from the local development of agricultural farms -vegetables, grains etc; dairy farms etc. All these will be simultaneously developed. Partners with expertise in these areas.

    We have MOU's from a few partners in the past, after the Haiti earthquake, however, it was not implemented, given the political milieu and hindrances and funding issues.

    This offer and request from India is from the Moderators of the Church of South India. This is an umbrella over many denominations, developed by England in the past history. They will not be involved in the administrative not financial aspects of this project. Merely permitting us to develop large areas of land where the hospitals and Universities are now abandoned.

    The project is not limiting it to any denomination or church as such.

    Educational facilities to complement the needs to run hospitals and etc.

    Fund raising will begin after the non-profit is incorporated and registered in the U.S.and things finalized in India - another trip, in person.

    Hope that clarifies it a bit. Thanks for your interest.

    You need to pick a name first. Then the tagline can help clarify the mission w/o duplicating words in the name.

    I think the World Wildlife Fund (also known as WWF) has done an excellent job of branding itself as a professional managed organization doing some excellent work. So with that in mind maybe something like ...

    World Community Development Fund - WCDF
    World Helping Hands Fund - WHHF
    World Community Caring Fund - WCCF

    You get the idea.

    Hope this helps.

    Dear sathyafurtado,

    By the sounds of it, you want to save the world. That's a truly noble goal. Really it is. Might you, though, be taking on too much? Your list of mission directions is a mile wide and a fraction of an inch deep, which means you'll be spreading yourself too thin.

    Take a look at Oxfam's website and see if they can offer you ideas to refine your overall mission.

    https://www.oxfam.org/

    Likewise the work of Doctors Without Borders

    https://www.doctorswithoutborders.org/

    There's another question of how you'll fund everything you want to do. Do you have capital reserves, or are you in the process of setting up an endowment from which to draw a 4 to 5 percent of annual returns as a float to support your annual operating budget (based on a 36 month rolling average of earned income from those investments)?

    To fund everything in your list you're looking at annual operating costs of millions of dollars, and those costs are just to cover operations (salaries, buildings, materials, equipment, benefits, insurance, travel, logistics, training, vehicles, supplies, and so on). On top of these costs you'll need fundraising, field personnel, assessment systems, hiring policies, management systems, triage assessors, marketing, PR, spokespeople, lobby support, connections, messaging, mailing lists and so on.

    If you already have all this in place, great. It just seems to me to be the large pink elephant in the middle of the room. Let's address it and what it means, THEN let's discuss names and mission statements.

    Image implied,

    How simply and effortlessly you seem to come up with these names and tag lines! They certainly bring a big broad smile to my face and joy to my heart. Yes, all of these will be considered and presented.

    More are still welcome, as i am sorting through the maze of needs, ideas etc. Embarking on a major undertaking.

    Thanks for your support. I appreciate your time and involvement.

    Dear Gary,

    Sorry I was writing to you when my response disappeared suddenly. Am sure it was operator induced...ugh.

    I appreciate your insight into this project. Yes, it appears and is "Herculean" in nature. It stems from a desire to treat the root cause of the disease or problem rather than be a band aid station or merely treat the symptoms. This is primarily often times, self serving. Teach someone to fish rather than give him a fish for a meal! This will affect generations to come- we. they, can leave a legacy behind.

    I will look into both the sites, suggested.

    Funding is the crux of it all and the key element for success. No, I do not have a personal stash. Lost most of it to investments!

    Yes, once the name is identified and officially registered in the U.S then, the process of fund raising will begin. I will need a ton of help just in this area alone - the sources, the "how to" etc.

    The initial costs for the existing shell of the hospital to function fully, will require $250,000.00. This includes construction, equipment, salaries, ambulances, etc. The initial one must be a true "success". Once, this is accomplished, there will be something to show for, making requesting funds easier too. This one small hospital will service numerous villages and the mobile clinics, will serve roughly 500,000 lives!

    The other aspects are significantly cheaper. Investing in the purchase of a cow or two, and gifting/loaning to a hard working family, teaching the" how to", involving the wife to care for them at home, while the man works in the fields, etc, and providing milk to the hospital and families on site is less than 50/month.

    The dollar goes a long way in the third world country. One U.S. $ is equivalent to Rs. 50.00 in India. Had much guilt eating out and a large steak at that....last nite...Cd have fed a village!.

    Enrolling and registering the individual and business then gives him the opportunity to qualify for numerous government business loans.

    Poultry farming, fisheries, rice paddies, vegetable gardens are equally simple. The hope is to make one small community self sustaining.

    Every comment you have made is correct and valid indeed. The administration of it all requires departmentalization and delegation. It will be a union and partnership of many.

    The chief minister of the state is eager to be a part of it too. He is sold on the concept.

    The educational institutions are very interested too. to partner, both in India and the U.S. Medical schools are willing to send professors and residents in training to serve, and expose physicians to rural medicine, International health etc.

    The non profit organizations in India -particularly the medical entities are willing to offer volunteer services for mobile clinics and medical camps. They are affiliated with major hospitals in the larger cities with more amenities to do the appropriate surgeries etc.

    The major difference in this project, is the" request", that originated in India, by the Church of South India Synod. They wish to revitalize failing mission hospitals and teaching institutions. As a physician and educator, this is indeed my cup of tea! (Unclear to me, however, is their belief, that I could handle this undertaking! I am simply put, willing.)

    The opportunity is also different, as they have the land around the hospitals and are open to us developing it. This eliminates the exorbitant costs of purchasing land and avoiding the political issues
    etc.

    The building of schools etc will require major funding no doubt. The fund raising will have to be directed according to each sub project if you will. Any building, regardless of purpose will be a major cost.

    The vision has to be seen and felt and the results tasted, by many. The success of the first project will spread like wild fire, is my hope, when and where many would step up to the plate and would be knocking on the door, eager to be a part of this beautiful outpouring of love, changing lives and communities at large.

    Every gift, every talent, every desire to serve could be met at various levels -both local -from the third world country and Internationally. All the non-profits already existing are welcome to partner and fulfill their own mission. the "human resource" of intelligence, manpower, in India alone is enormous! Yes, it is difficult for one individual or organization to do all the aspects of this project. It is both wide and deep I believe.

    Thanks again for caring, for being involved and willing to help me personally. I find all your comments encouraging.

    Thanks for the suggestions. yes, I am getting the ideas. This will not be a fund however. I will need funding very shortly.

    I will consider presenting the names without the word funding, however. Additional ideas are welcome.

    Dear Sathya,

    You're welcome.

    You'll need 501 C 3 status. Here's an overview of how you do this:

    https://www.wikihow.com/Start-a-501c3-Nonprofit-Organization

    On the note of raising money, if you can put together a compelling story (which you're already got), and if, with 50 to 70 photographs, and with 15 to 30 testimonials and a simple voiceover, if you can add all this together in a simple video, with a powerful message, a strong call to action, a dollar amount, and a deadline, you then post this request on KickStarter.

    Emphasize the creative nature of just how your project will help people in impoverished nations and areas live fuller, easier, safer, more sustained lives through the basic essentials of education, literacy, basic healthcare, access to clean running water, and humanitarian help, and don't be afraid to dream and to dream BIG. Paint the picture of building a new hospital that will help thousands of people: that's a mission, that's a calling. You'll raise money ... I can pretty much guarantee it. Here's a link: https://www.kickstarter.com/

    Take a look at the site, watch some of the videos, think about your message, and dream big.

    Hi Sathya,

    Just to let you know, the World Wildlife Fund is not a "fund" per se
    either. They could just as easily have decided to use the word "foundation" which could work for your organization as well.

    You are already partnering in the project.

    I will follow up on all these websites and sources.

    The videos, pictures,etc should take place on My next trip to India shortly, after the NPwork is begun.

    I am encouraged by your gaurantee! your permission to dream big. There is soo much that I lack personally it seems, but...

    Gary,

    I studied the kickstar.com. they specifically state it is not for charities and non-profits, but for "creative" talent. How must i present my case. We are getting videos and brochures made..

    Am still working on a name first, to get it registered. The majority of the suggested ones are taken, to my greatest disappointment, as I so enjoyed many a name.
  • Posted by sathyafurtado on Author
    Gary, image implied, Steve,

    I was saddened that most of the suggestions are currently in use! I did enjoy all the names and studied them carefully, reviewed them all.

    This is slowing the process significantly. though I am told, "what's in a name?" "It will be the work and service you do, so do not worry". Am not sure entirely. I believe it must convey the message and passion.

    The tag lines are also still great and can be used anyway, somehow or somewhere.

    Any additional names are still welcome please. Am eager to begin.
