Village Maternity Retail Store That Has Everything

Posted by Anonymous on 250 Points
We are a small boutique, but we have everything needed, and desired for Maternity, Nursing and baby (pregnant moms, nursing moms, and baby). It's fairly high end so one stop shopping doesn't come off well. I am looking for a great tagline, so people don't think we are just a maternity store (since our name is Village Maternity). Thanks.

Is changing the name an option? It's a little awkward to have a name that says you're a maternity store, and then contradict yourself in the tagline.

What you'd love to do is have a name that says, "The Mom Store," and then use the tagline to punctuate it with an emotional benefit that expands the concept.

Second choice: Modify the name to "Village Maternity and More" and then add a tagline that delivers the emotional payoff of the whole experience -- from maternity to infant care. (Example: "Enhancing the most meaningful experience of your life.")

Well, I've been in business with that name for 29 years. The reason we are in a mall is because we are a maternity store...and they probably wish we didn't bring in all the other items, but we do. I like the idea of the emotional payoff. Thanks.

    Village Maternity:

    1. More of What Moms Need
    2. What Moms Need And More
    3. All The Stuff Moms Desire

More of what Moms need or desire is interesting. I am so literal, they are really moms to be, and also nursing moms and sometimes, moms.

I will think about that one though. THANKS VERY MUCH!

re "they are really moms to be".

What do perception studies say about pregnant women, do they begin to think of themselves as moms before giving birth?

Also, you could go with "2b moms" or "moms 2b" for short, but it's a little txty.

I'm probably a little dense. Can you explain ...

... what being in business with that name 29 years has to do with the issue of a tagline that reflects your intended change in direction (from maternity to a broader product line for new moms too). Would the issue be any different if you'd been in business 7 years or 22 years or 35 years?

... "The reason we are in a mall is because we are a maternity store" The logic escapes me. Aren't there maternity shops that are not in a mall? What does being in a mall have to do with the tagline?

I'm really not trying to be a smart-ass. I'm trying to understand your point so I can respond to your request and be helpful.

Bump is our big competition, so can't put that in the tagline.I will think about FOR YOU AND YOUR LITTLE ONE.

More of what 2b moms need might work. OR moms 2b...not sure about it being so texty.

    A Pregnant Through Nursing Boutique

TO MGoodman, You asked if I could change my name. I was responding to that. And, because my store has been known by that name for 29 years, I would not want to change it. Adding a tagline is exactly what I want to do, so I am not understanding your question.

Again, being in the mall has to do with the management wanting a maternity shop. If we were a kids store, we would be kicked out. They also want our name to be the same: Village Maternity. Our mall has a lot of control. If I weren't in this mall, I could do anything I wanted. Nevertheless, I can do what I want with a tagline, pretty much. I don't know if that explains things to you?

Finally, I like a pregnant through nursing boutique.
