Burying One Business, Birthing Another!!

Posted by Anonymous on 250 Points
I started a small event business (Distinction) and recently concluded that i should enjoy event planning as a hobby rather than a business.

I've now decided to start an HR consulting firm that focuses on employee/customer retention strategies. This is a logical fit as I have a 15+ year career in HR.

My challenge is that I would like to keep the name DISTINCTION (used for event plng) and add a tagline that is related to the new HR business. Keeping the old business name will save me a significant amount of money.

My focus with the HR business is promoting the unique, strategic benefits of designing effective people management strategies.

Thanks in advance for your help!!

Sounds to me that you have two very different markets so keeping the name should not be an issue.

There isn't a value to keeping the name (from a brand value of your old business helping your new business), but also nothing saying you can't. Just go ahead and use it. Or modify it slightly to avoid confusion ("Distinction HR" and "Distinction Events")

For a tag line, how about "Distinct and effective people management strategies"
