Final Decision! Which Clinic Name Sounds Best?

Posted by Anonymous on 100 Points
Hi,

I have received great help from you all before, and also asked some friends, etc. but I keep getting conflicting suggestions-- help! I have narrowed down some ideas, but I am not sure about the combination of the terms-- to express the purpose of my clinic the most clearly, it seems to become quite wordy. Anyways, I have listed the terms that I have narrowed down for inclusion for the clinic name-- what combination would you recommend?

River City
Jacksonville
First Coast
Pediatric
Psychology
Psychological
Behavioral
Center
Services
Health

Also, the front runners per my surveys with friends are below; out of the list here, which do you like best (if any)?:

River City Pediatric Psychology Center
River City Pediatric Behavioral Services
River City Psychological Services
River City Behavioral Health
Jacksonville Pediatric Psychology Center
Jacksonville Pediatric Psychological Services

FYI, ABOUT ME/MY CLINIC:
-I am a licensed psychologist (specialty in school psychology and behavior management), board certified behavior analyst, and nationally certified school psychologist.
-My focus is working with families with kids between 18 months and 18 years (but primary strength is with kids up to about age 10).
-The diagnoses I specialize in are ADHD, disruptive behavior problems, Autism spectrum disorders, anxiety, etc
-I do psychological assessment/testing, behavior management training for parents and teachers, ABA (behavior analysis) therapy for kids with Autism, cognitive-behavioral therapy, family therapy, individual therapy, group therapy, I go into the schools to observe the child and provide recommendations to school staff, and I attend special education team meetings to advocate for the child's needs and services.
-I will be doing more consultation with private schools to help them develop programs to manage student behavior and/or improve curriculum and instruction.
-I also collaborate a lot with the local University and supervise practicum students who help me with things in the clinic, and I have supervised a lot of trainees at different levels (undergrad, masters level, PhD, BCBA, etc.).

What anyone here "likes" is irrelevant, similarly for the opinions of your friends, loved ones, etc.,.

Your best bet, if this is for online promotional use (because the days of people going to their copy of the Yellow Pages are numbered), is to spend $10 on the two most RELEVANT names and buy the domain names for each.

Then, you run a 30 PPC campaign with split test ads with the ads alternating so that traffic goes first to one domain, then the other. Do this for 30 days. Each site ought to be the same but this will at least give you an indication as to which domain name has the most pull.

Go with the result that brings in the most traffic.

Is this the IDEAL way to decide? No, but it's better than having people with no vested interest picking the name on your behalf. I say again, what your friends, family, loved one,s nearest, dearest, and those here think of your names is neither here nor there.

What matters most is the names potential clients respond the best to and the technique mentioned above is ONE way to make a decision.

I agree with Gary's input "What matters most is the names potential clients respond the best to ..". That said, "Jacksonville Pediatric Behavioral Services" most effectively communicates your practice brand for me, if I were a potential client.

    Good luck,

    Steve

Instead of "pediatric" may I suggest "family", as in "Jacksonville Family Therapy"? You want "Jacksonville" in your name for search reasons, and "pediatric" may confuse you with child physicians (also, you mention your specialty is working with the family). "Therapy" instead of "Psychologist or Behavior" since people are looking for therapy. Your tagline can spell our your degree/niche as appropriate.

Of the names you listed, many of them make you sound like a large clinic, rather than something that fits for family/pediatric counseling.

I think the name of the business should be as straightforward as possible. Your description of your vision uses the words "clinic" and "school psychology" neither of which are listed in your choices. It's also relevant to know who else is in that space and geographical area as your potential competition. Look at the names of the other businesses that users will find when searching for your services -- how can you position your clinic/center as better or different? How can you fill the need that isn't there?

You know the area you are in and are hoping to serve, let that dictate your choice between River City or Jacksonville.

I like the term School Psychologist and maybe "advocate" or "advocacy" too -- as a parent that part of your resume resonated with me.

But my advice as a marketer is to consider more than just the clinic name -- which is certainly important. But you also have opportunity in a tagline to position your business. So what a straightforward name may not be able to communicate, a name and tagline together can.

    Ideas:
    Children's Psychological Clinic
-- Diagnosis and Advocacy for Your Student

    River City School Psychology
-- Helping Your Child Succeed or
    -- Advocating Your Child's Needs

    Jacksonville Psychological Clinic for Kids
-- Understanding is the first step to success

    hope this helped!

Either spend some money and research the names among your target audience, or pick one and move on. The name is important, but getting input from friends and family is definitely NOT the way to do this. Even OUR opinions should not be the primary inputs to this decision.

But if you want to know what we think, look back at answers to your previous questions. We won't all agree on every point, but then we probably won't all vote the same way either.

From my personal perspective, I'd stay away from the words "psychology" (and its derivatives) and "pediatric." Those 4 syllable words make the name a mouthful, and they could be turn-offs for some folks. And fewer words is better ... like "Jacksonville Behavioral Health."

You can add more details in a tagline.

I agree and understand the need for good research for marketing purposes, but I have an unusual situation that makes my timeline EXTREMELY expedited-- I was with a practice for a few years in this area and was recently let go (LONG story). I have a number of clients that have decided to remain under my care, and I have to get things up and running ASAP so that they are not without services for too long of a time. Is there anything that I can do to at least somewhat further research name ideas, market info, etc. that is quick? I need to decide on a name so that I can start the process of becoming incorporated and proceed with the other steps necessary in starting a business. If I incorporate under my name for now, this could give me some time to better decide on a clinic name later, but then I am worried about the change over and impact of that.
    Thank you for your ideas!
