Topic: Taglines/Names

Bilingual Photography Company

Posted by Anonymous on 250 Points
My husband and I are starting our photography company and are looking for a name & tag line that will appeal to both the Spanish and English speaking cultures (our cards will be English on one side and Spanish on the other). We were thinking perhaps a name like Camera Flashes (as both names are very similar in Spanish and English) but i am reluctant that this isn't catchy enough and perhaps a bit to generic. As far as a tag line is concerned I am oblivious as I want it to be unique and appealing. My husband's native language is Spanish so he wants to keep it fairly simple but I think too simple will make us lost in a very competitive market. Please help.

Perhaps you're overthinking it. I'd go for simple.

If you have a simple name, you can have a tagline in English and another in Spanish. You can have your website in both languages, with an option on the landing page for the user to select his/her preferred language.

The real issue, in my view, is where/how your primary target audience is going to learn about you. It's not going to be easy to market to both cultures ... or it's going to cost significantly more than it would with only one target. When you split your marketing budget, you risk not doing a good job in either language.

Thank you for that feedback. You are correct. I think initially the primary target is going to be the Spanish community as my husband is the photographer and believes that is the best angle to start with doing Quinceañera, Weddings, and Birthdays until our reputation is built up. That is where our focus will be at first, but we don't want to have to change our name in the future when we grow which is why I am seeking a name and tag line that will work for both.

Why does the tagline have to work for both?

And where are you located? If you are in a country that is primarily English-speaking, maybe an Anglo name would work for both. Similarly, in a Spanish-speaking country, perhaps a Spanish name would work for both.

You might even want to use your location as part of the name, since it will be meaningful to everyone in your target audience. Example: "Images of Miami"

I suppose the tagline doesn't need to work for both. I am very new to this which is why I am seeking marketing advise. We are based out of Orlando but are becoming a subsidiary company of my husband's brother's photography company based out of Nicaragua. We just don't think his name works well for us. I think we are going to go with Alezun Photography. and Capturing Unforgettable Moments (In Spanish) as our tagline. Took the advise of simple and I think mixing first and last name (1st three letters of each) makes us a little unique. Thank you for your input.
