Name For A Website

Posted by hammers1003 on 125 Points
Hi,

I am looking for a name to a website where people are looking at a listing of restaurants and takeaways etc where the customer will either book a table or look at the restauarants menu or order takeaway. Obviously a eating or food theme would be the obvious choice.
Any thought greatly appreciated.

    Stop.

My thoughts are that your idea is way too vague.

My gut tells me you need to fill in several missing pieces.

My experience tells me you need to learn about search engine optimization, about search to domain congruency, and about local search relevance by IP address and about local review status.

From the sound of your question I'd hazard a guess that the things I've just mentioned are probably all new to you. There's no shame in not knowing something but to create a website without first understanding a few basic concepts is less than wise.

I'm telling you this for your own good.

I want you to succeed and online, success looks easy: it's not.

Search engine-wise (Google, Yahoo, Bing, Ask, and MSN) your site needs first page, top 5 visibility for highly targeted key phrases.

Competition for these spots is fierce.

Traffic to sites below 5th place on all search engines falls off to between 5 and 1 percent of total monthly search volume.

Traffic to sites on pages 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 etc, falls off to fractions of one percent and most people SELDOM go beyond the second page of search results on any search engine.

So if you're not at or near the top of page 1, your chances of being found, of being seen, and of being clicked on ... and of that click converting to a revenue generating action ... are slim.

You're setting up a site? Great. How will your generate revenue and why will restaurant owners choose to sign up with you? What do you offer? What's in the sign up relationship for them?

When people are looking for an eatery and when front of house staff are looking at table allocation there is little demand to book a table via a website. It happens but it's less popular than you might think.

Most people book a table over the phone. As for menus, if someone's ordering pizza, yes, they might look at a menu online. But rarely will anyone make their choice of dish at home. People look at menus when they're sitting at the table, in the restaurant. not online.

And as far as where these eateries are, unless they're traveling, most people eat at restaurants that are close to home, which is where local search comes in.

You have a good idea, one that's worth looking into. Just be sure to carry out ALL due diligence ahead of time: is there a demand, is there a niche you can carve out and make your own, which sector of the market will you pitch to, how will your frame your offers, what will make you stand out, how will you get to the top of page one of the search engines and how will you stay there? Answer these questions, then come back.

You MUST flesh out your plans for the business, the marketing, and your service delivery before you commit time, effort, sweat, and money.
