Name For An Event Planning Business Needed

Posted by amanda.wyer on 250 Points
I have always been drawn to party and event planning. Now that I am in an official position and have learned more about the skills needed to successfully produce an amazing event I am toying with the idea of starting up my own business. My name is Amanda Wyer and I would like to focus on Weddings, Receptions, Anniversaries, Birthday's and other social (business or personal) parties. Any ideas on Business name and or tag lines?

Before you figure out a name, I'd welcome a little more background information on the research you've done into the viability of this niche in your area.

Areas I'd like more information on include:

Where you are, geographically speaking; your client potential in terms of numbers per month; your costs and overheads; how you'll market your services; the levels of experience and social proof you can provide (testimonials); reasons why clients ought to sign up with you; what it is that makes you stand out in this niche in your area; fee structures (it's not necessary here to broadcast what you'll charge but you need an idea of what you'll charge and a scope of services); what you WON'T do; who your ideal client is; securing of start up funding; projected break even point; projected profit threshold in time; possibility for conflict of interest given your current official position; relationships with associated vendors.

All tedious I know, but all essential ... and all important.

You might also want to start with a specific KIND of event from which you can then branch out.

There are differences in perception (on the parts of the people involved) between. let's say, a birthday party and a wedding reception. Many of the mechanical aspects of events may be similar (caterers, flowers, music, bar tenders, furniture rentals, and so on), but there are significant differences between working with a bride and her mother at one end of the scale and working with an executive assistant for a corporate cocktail party at the other end.

You're welcome. I understand how important a name might seem (because it is important) and yes, it's at the top of your list because it will be a key element. That said, thought now, up front about who you'll serve, how you'll serve them, and how you'll focus your efforts will save you from a world of pain later on.

The business name can be as simple as your name and the words "event planning". What's of greater importance is the desired outcome of your ideal client: what's in it for them.

The more your can match the message of what you do, and of how you'll make your clients look and feel as a result of having worked with you, the more you'll create a bond of trust and the more you'll cement the desire for them to want to work with you again, and to refer you to other people within your ideal client's social circle.

A good amount of success in event planning and event supplying depends on "it's who you know ... and who you impress". Here's an example: A few months ago the floral work of a friend of one of my neighbors got noticed at an event and the remark got passed on to a young bride-to-be.

One thing led to another: the bride-to-be and her mother met the floral designer, everyone got along like a house on fire, and the floral designer got the job ... and a great deal of attention. I live in Wilmington, Delaware, as does the bride and her family. The bride's father is Joe Biden ... and Delaware is home to a LOT of wealthy high society people. Guess which floral designer is now in high demand?

That's AMAZING and I will seriously start working on what I want my plan and client base to be. Again thank you for putting this into perspective for me.

You're welcome. Good luck to you.

Also consider establishing partnerships and referral programs with local grade "A" caterers, florists, floral designers, party decorators, musicians and bands, DJs, furniture rental companies, linen suppliers, greens services, security, limo services, dress stores, wedding magazines, society clubs, major hotels and venues of all sizes, party favor companies and suppliers, wine and spirit suppliers, bartenders, ice sculptors, invitation printers, and event or people photographers.

List only the best FOR the best clients and focus on quality and you'll be able to justify rates as a result.

Then over deliver and do so massively.
