Naming Cosmetic Line

Posted by Tdmgrp on 125 Points
I am in the process of starting my own cosmetic company. The products will consist of flavored lip balm, Lotions, and Body scrub. I hope to compete with companies such as Carol's Daughter, Bath and Body Works, and The Body Shop. I'm in my early 20's so I want the line to represent youth, and beauty but appeal to women of all ages and demographics. I have toyed with names such as Sweet Scentsations and Skin Deep but would love help in brainstorming new names. Thank you in advance for the help, its most appreciated.

"...women of all ages and demographics" is way too broad a target. Even if we could come up with a name that is perfect for all those billions of people, you couldn't afford to reach them and generate awareness.

You would be much better off narrowing the target considerably and then talking to a few dozen people in your [narrowed] target audience about what they are using now, their satisfaction level and loyalty, attitudes toward and awareness of brands in the category, etc. They will give you great input for coming up with a name (and a marketing strategy). Note especially the words they use to describe how they FEEL about the brands/products they use. Those are very telling phrases that we can use in naming.

Thank you both for your timely responses and the information.
The purpose for my post was simply to start a brainstorming session to come up with business names, because I had hit a barrier and was looking for some creative people to get some ideas and possibly get inspired. I posted, as much information as I thought was necessary in picking a name. I have already established a business plan, I have calculated the cost, been in contact with suppliers, secured my packaging, and supplies for making my products. I have also obtained quotes for liability insurance, and have thoroughly researched FDA requirements on what can and cannot be used in cosmetics. I am aware of the expenses that come along, with pursing this venture, and for the most part I am doing okay with handling the expenses. I am not naïve to the fact that it will take more than a nice name to run a business, but I am willing to put in the work to do my best to succeed in it. It was also mentioned that my concept was too broad, I will take that into consideration, and really look into getting ideas from the people that are currently using my product samples. I know you both must be experts in your field, so again I thank you for taking the time to respond and provide feedback.
