Name For A Discount Card

Posted by Anonymous on 250 Points
I am trying to find a great name for a new discount card that I will be selling. The card will not be limited to the area I live in and will include everything from restaurants/bars, tourism sites, gas stations/convenience stores and service oriented businesses. I want it to be a one word name that related to it being the "ultimate discount card" that is good for one year, unlimited uses. While this word is not what I am looking for, I am wanting something unique like "Onyx" that would set the card apart, be classy and appealing.

Onyx is a variant of agate, so maybe Agate, or Opal or Zinc - just google a list of minerals for more possibilities.

You have the "cart before the horse". You need to do the work first. Write a business plan with a well developed marketing section based on solid research and analysis. The right name, positioning statement and tagline come from a written creative brief that is based on your hard work and findings. There no shortcuts to success. The perfect name in your mind is just the perfect name in your mind. The name is not a ticket to financial success.

How about Oryx. It is an antelope, it is shy and light of foot. Well of course you could choose a more popular animal. If you are only aiming for the local market then you can choose the popular one in your chosen area.

"Oryx the card that reacts as quickly to your needs"

Please bear in mind that if your only advantage is being cheaper, anybody can undermine you. You need to think long and hard about what you can do - and this is as important as the name.

If you are starting this sort of thing, invest a little in finding out what your customers think already. Set up a display network campaign and see which of your ideas comes out top. Just make sure you are testing different ideas - most people test two things twenty times rather than twenty different things!

    Hi Steve,

Thank you for your insight. I apologize if it came across as not having the homework done, I was being brief for posting purposes. I do have a completely developed business plan and have completed extensive R&D before considering moving forward with the project. I really was looking for help in brainstorming ideas, knowing what I am looking for, but having difficulty thinking of the name. It seems to be at the tip of my tongue, but I can't think of the word with the meaning that I am searching for. Thanks for giving great direction, though...much appreciated!
