Database Consulting It Company

Posted by AC on 250 Points
Hi,
I am trying to start a small database support service provider consulting company, and my target audience will be small business, and medium business. I am in need of some help to come up with the name and am thinking I might get some guidance here to get meaningful, creative and good name and help attract clients just by looking at the name.

Thanks for the help.

What benefit do you offer the small businesses in your target audience?

What you want to do isn't the operative question. It's what important and unique benefit your target audience will get when they hire you.

Also, you might help us by qualifying the businesses you will serve. Where are they located? What industry/industries? How will they know if they need your services?

Target audience can be any where since my target is to prove Remote Database Support.

In terms of how they know, i have to do marketing and advertise through social media, as well as through personal contacts.

Let me know if you have any questions or still not clear.

You still have not identified the BENEFIT. You list the things you do, but not the benefit to your target audience. Will you make them thinner, richer or sexier? Will you give them peace of mind? Will you drive more customers to their doors? Will you lower their costs in a meaningful way?

Why might someone hire you? Who? Who needs what you do? Why?

    mgoodman,
Thanks for making me to think broad.
With my service, i will provide them peace of mind in terms of data security, data recovery, data management and administration by lowering the cost and driving more customer to them. My service will help my clients to increase their revenue and help them increase their business.

Let me know if this makes more sense now.

A little, but you're not there yet.

How does what you do "drive more customers to them?" How does it lower their cost? How does it provide them peace of mind? Those all sound like good things, but somehow I never think of database management services as avenues to any of them.

Maybe you're right about all of them for certain kinds of customers, but it isn't clear which customers those might be. And you need to focus on the one benefit that is most important to your primary target audience.

When you offer a smorgasbord of benefits, most people immediately discount them all. Better to pick the one that's most compelling and really nail that one.

And you still haven't qualified the target audience. The narrower you can be the better. Maybe you need to start with a rough business plan and an overall marketing strategy before you get too far into naming the company.

Finally, you shouldn't expect the name to do too much for you in attracting customers. It's your marketing plan that will do that. The name is just a supporting actor in that movie. And it won't do anything if you don't identify the primary target audience and let them know the positioning benefit.

Firstly thanks to M Goodman for getting things clarified. Otherwise it will have been a waste of time.

    "Don't SQL, Sleek Data Systems!"

"You won't lose your way and you won't lose your data"

"Sleek Data Systems and you won't sql at our prices "

"All your data is securely and independently backed up on our remote servers" (as a USP)

I did Google your name by the way. Hope this helps!

    MGoodMan,
This is great, helping me to understand the need and my focus on what am trying to do.
There can be different types of customers, one can be direct clients who can use my service directly, other can be organization who has outoruced all the IT work to another company, ( IT service provider) and this company may not have required Database Professionals to meet their client need, and when i deliver what needed to be such as to protect their data, solid plan to recover their data, and other database related work with minimum cost. Minimum cost can be relative as compared to a full time Database Professional.
When i meant peace of mind, this will be with the data protection, DR plan. Why these will give peace of mind? My service will make sure that data will be protected, and data can be recovered without issues in the time of disaster, which means clients do not have to worry about these things at all.

In terms of audience, this can be any whoever uses database mangement system to manage and maintain their business data. Every one uses data in the backend to collect, maintain, manage and protect customers data. This will be crucial to all of the organizations and to take control of these, database professionals are needed. My goal would be to provide best and cost effective service to meet their service level agreements.

Also, i am kind a new, and is just a thought, i do not have a strong or solid business plan as of now.

Is this better now? I truly appreciate your help.

Since you're trying to create a name that might appeal (or realistically, might not create the wrong impression) to a small business owner, don't try to be clever. But do try to pick a name that clearly articulates what you do (or for who), for example: "Database Squad" or "Database Maintenance Expert".
