you need a catchy name? Surely if someone is trapped in that sort of problem they won't need much encouragement to find you.

If you are looking to attract sponsors with the name, that is a different issue altogether. Furthermore that sort of person isn't going to be moved just by a catchy name.

So could you detail us with some idea of what it is you want your name to do for you. Given that as a charity you need a great deal more than a name to establish your credibility.

My organization should have a titles of two to five words. Something simple like "Save the Children" or "Make a wish" there are fundraisers, events and many other ways to help accomplish the millennium development goal which is eradicating poverty. I dont need sponsors, just ideas.

At the moment, ideas are the hardest bit when you don't have much to go on. Oxfam - well known to you - was set up in 1948 and has become known simply because it has endured.

Oh, and it has spent no small sum on branding its image. Plus it had the help of some well heeled colleges too.

I need to know what you want to achieve with the name, and who this name should speak to. Everyone knows Oxfam (or should). Who is it that you want to make contact with? Just calling yourself a name won't mean that it gets read by anyone. In short, branding is an expensive and ineffective business. There are far better ways of wasting money, let alone spending it wisely. Being specific and direct will help there.

    Dear M,
I think you are generally asking too many questions, and its a simple work task and i need creative ideas. I am here to help the Millennium development goal. If you can't help me directly then i appreciate what you have done so far, but you ask too much.

    Jay,
Thank you these types of titles are what im looking for, but these titles are a bit too vague.

I have a few questions: what's your organization's mission? How, exactly, does your organization help poverty and child development? What is the "millennium development" goal and where, geographically, is it (and where are you) located and where and how are your programs applied?

Your cooperation with these questions will help fill in a few gaps.

You've mentioned you don't need sponsors. I've worked with non-profits for over 25 years. In my experience, sponsors, donors, and friends are a vital part of a non-profit's structure.

If all you want is a catchy name you are going to have to spend a great deal of money getting it known.

The more specific you are, the more precise you are with your audience - that is when your advertising becomes cost effective. I doubt that you would have the money as a non-profit to spend the sort of money to get even the catchiest of brand names known, even in your locality. That is where your sponsors come in ...

My questions stand. If I were working with you, you would be under a great deal more scrutiny - and your advertising costs would be substantially lower as a result.
