Need A Tag Line For Homemade Products

Posted by misspavlov on 25 Points
I make and give gifts to friends/family that are home or hand made as a hobby. I just had a logo made for labels, tags, etc. I am thinking of adding a tag line to it. Here's what I make...variety of food items homemade (applesauce, ice cream, cookies, chocolates) I knit a ton of items for gifts. Currently NOT interested in selling except occasionally someone will
Commission cookies, pops or chocolates for parties. Eventually this may become a business but that's a long way off. Everyone that tastes what I make says I should "brand" it somehow because it is simply the best they have tasted or seen. so,the logo for labels and tags. My logo is my name Heather Leigh with a pretty simple design. "Homemade by" just doesn't do it for me. I want clever tag line yet simple but goes along gifts I'm making.

Stop. If you're packaging and offering your products and if you're looking into "branding" things
despite not yet being ready to create a business, you might first want to check with your state
health department on the regulation for food products made at home. With logos and the first perceptions of "branding" in the works you run the risk of being perceived as a business, even
if you're not. Liability wise this opens you up to all kinds of potential health and safety issues.

If you're not starting a business and you're not selling anything for profit you probably don't need
a logo or a tag line: you're just making gifts.

Thank you for that, but no, not selling or shipping. If you knew the circle of friend/family and gifts you'd understand the need for a clever logo and/or tagline. Thank you for taking the time to comment.

Your tag line does not need to be clever, it simply needs to be relevant.

The key to a good tagline is always those who know you. They are the ones who see your strengths (and weaknesses). They are the ones who will hand you the keys to your tagline.

You say **If you knew the circle of friend/family and gifts you'd understand the need for a clever logo and/or tagline.** Because your tagline doesn't need to be clever. As Gary says, it needs to be relevant. After that, you can do what you like with it - and it will be as powerful. Because it deals with the reality of your specialness.

If you could ask your friends to be as honest as possible and tell you what they like about you - once you have ten responses, you will have a good idea of what your real strengths are. That is when you come back to us and give us something concrete to play with.

Because that's when we can turn it into something powerful.

You also say **Currently NOT interested in selling except occasionally someone will
Commission cookies, pops or chocolates for parties.** - this is the key to an extremely profitable business. What's more it need not take more than a few hours a week. Perhaps they want an entire party? Whatever, they come to you and don't whinge about price like the big guys always do. Build it slowly, carefully and make sure your customers get 150% satisfaction. That way, everybody is happy. What's more, you still have a life.

You are perhaps more fortunate than you imagine!

I hope this helps. Can you give us some direction for your tagline - which you can update as your satisfied clients pile the glowing references on. Moriarty xx
