Please Help...new Company Name & Tagline

Posted by amarangi on 250 Points
Dear all,
I am starting an online business selling cute and Kawaii (japanese term for cute) goods for young people aged 6-18. We will sell cute stationary and accessories from Japan, but also some very cute stationery and small gifts from Korea and Hong Kong, think Artbox or Paperchase. We do not want to call ourselves Kawaii because we do not only sell japanese products, BUT at the same time all our products are Japanese inspired, think "Hello Kitty appeal"-We called ourselves LitteMissPopular Gifts for girls too cute for words However we had problems with mums telling us that they would not purchase anything for boys and no party bags from companies with a girls name. We want to encorporate boys and girls and we are totally stuck with a far east evocative name that can suit both boys and girls. to give you an idea Our competitors are called: TofuCute, Paperchase, Modes4U,
ANY help would be very much appreciated..

    Hi Anna.

Let me explain your problem: you are looking at what you do, and not at why someone would choose you out of the myriad online/offline shops selling this sort of stuff. I grew up in Asia and loved those shops, long before the age of the internet ...

Now: "we had problems with mums telling us that they would not purchase anything for boys and no party bags from companies with a girls name" - did you ask them why this was? This kind of info is gold dust to a marketer. Not because of what it tells you, but because of what they aren't saying. The art of marketing is usually looking for what isn't there - and if that happens also to be a need - by making something to fit that need.

So my question to you is what need can you fill, and what is the question that your service answers.

    In the mean time:

    The Origami Crane
    The Paper Fold
Folded Paper (I'm in a rut!)

    Pink Parties (only girls!)
    Orange Fun
    Orange Party
Orange Origami (there I go again). (Mind you, I did come up with the eighth unique way to fold the bird base. Before I came along, you could only fold it in seven ways ... now you have a choice of 8).

    Any good? M

    Dear Moriarty,
thank you for your feedaback, I will think of that.
Origami is lovely but only relates to Japan. My company will sell cute and kawaii products but not only Japanese Its the concept of cute more than the Japanese "only" kawaii. My main competitor are Modes4U and although they do mainly kawaii stuff they do not pigeon-hole themsleves to simply Kawaii. The other company that I would, one day, aspire to be is ARTBOX Korean company selling Really cute stationery and gifts...If you see their website you will undersatnd what I mean... thank you so much for your help I need all the advice I can get right now..My brain is frozen and cant think anymore..

Origami is well known across the planet. Most people I speak to in Europe know about it, even if they aren't quite so sure what it actually means. It is a nice name, and even if people don't know what it is, it has a nice ring to it.

You could have Small Furry Animal (smallfurryanimal.com is free!)

    Does this help?

"My brain is frozen and cant think anymore." hey, it's winter. What else do you expect??

"Too Cute For Words" could work (or "2 Cute 4 Words") or perhaps "Popular Cute".

    Thank you Jay,
I did not want to use the word Cute because when I did some product/market research with mums and kids the boys and most of the boy's mums did not feel 100% confident buying from an online company with a girly word such as cute..

thank you all for your comments. Still did not find a new name for the company :-( I suppose I am attached to the "little Miss Popular" too much!
Someone suggested I leave Little and popular and write something instead of "miss" so to include boys as well as girls. Any ideas please?
    Thank you
