Ethnic Indian Fashion Boutique

Posted by Shashidhar.Murthy on 250 Points
Hi,
I am starting a fashion boutique with focus on handcrafted (no machines) traditional Indian fashion designs. To begin with my target customer segment is women and target collection is - Ethnic dress for Special events (including wedding - Bridal).

Pls help craft a Brand Name and a suitable Tag Line.

I am starting this along with my wife. So i am thinking of naming it "Sha-Ra" ..starting letters of my name - Shashi and wife's name - Ramya.

Rgds
Shashi

Let's start by being more specific about (a) your target audience, and (b) why someone might want to buy from you instead of buying from an established bridal shop.

Clearly your target audience is narrower than what you've stated. There are billions of women in the world, and you couldn't afford to reach and serve them all, even if they were interested in your product(s). But even more important than limiting the geography, perhaps you can define the lifestyle, attitudes, habits, practices and values of your target audience. What's important to them? And how are they going to find out about you?

And then perhaps you can tell us the important and unique benefit you will deliver to your target audience? Why should they shop at your boutique? How are you different from, and better than, your competition?

Added to what Mr. Goodman says, what makes you special among the thousands of other handcrafted garment makers?

    In the mean time

Shashi& Ramya Specials. Beautiful fashions, with nothing left out.
    - Crafted by hand just for you. And only you.

Thanks a lot for your questions. Here are my thoughts -

    a) Our target audience is two-fold:
    1) High income group Indians who value traditional Indian handicrafts and would like to flaunt ownership of unique and custom made dresses on special occasions.
    2) Foreign travellers to India - The purpose is to introduce Indian designs to them.

    b) The uniqueness of our offering is mainly derived from

    1) Product - Uniqueness is derived from combination of Design, Material, Pattern, Color combination and Fit.
    2) Custom Made with design derived from client's personality and taste.
    3) Intellectual property of Unique designs.

Since no one will know what "Sha-Ra" means, why don't you highlight one of your benefits in your business name (for example: "Traditional Indian Couture")?
