Our first purchase includes 18 pallets of mainly furniture. We will also be purchasing home accessories and decor, and other things like electronics that come up for auction that we think we can turn over quickly.
I have bought and sold items in the past to make ends meet, and we'd like to take that to the next level. At first, we plan to use Craigslist quite a bit, I've had success with it n the past. For space, we are planning to rent in a business park in our area that is set up for mixed use - some are strictly warehouses, but there are walk in businesses and office space there as well. They have a loading dock and forklifts for tenant use, 24-hour access and security.
We plan for this to be a family business. Our kids will be involved when appropriate. Depending on the portability of our items, we will also set up at one of the busy flea markets in our area.
We'd like to build walk in traffic and eventually move to a more regular storefront. In the mean time, I still plan to arrange the inside in a 'shabby chic' type style with furniture grouped into functional clusters with decorative touches.
In general, we will be purchasing for approximately 10% of retail, not including shipping to us. So we will be able to make a good profit while keeping prices low. Most of our inventory will be "last season", but our target market are young couples, college students, and older couples who are looking for deals. Lower to middle class would probably describe our demographic.
Our last name is Alanis (not pronounced like the singer, its Hispanic, sounds more like A-la-niece). I think we want to include that. I've listed some words: random, value, eclectic, randomly, emporium, outpost, housewares, homeware.
If you have any suggestions for a name and/or tagline, I'd appreciate it!
Thank you!
