Need Decision For Name For Women's Clothing Store

Posted by tan_cooper on 25 Points
Hi there I am opening up a store in New Zealand selling gorgeous women's tunics / silk beach cover ups and accessories. My main clientele will be women between 25 and 50. The clothes will mainly be loose, flowing, soft, silk style tunics and kaftans with detailed beading and embellishments stitched on. Women will be primarily purchasing the items for going on holiday, beach or exotic locations. They will be able to wear this to dinner, a ladies luncheon, even a wedding.

I have a few names I've been throwing around but really am not sure of one which is apt. Would love help from the professionals.

Names so far are:
Tanserene (evokes feeling of sunshine (tan), warmth, serenity)
Divine Designs (title speaks for itself)
Clothes Goddess

Any help would be really appreciated as well as assistance with a tagline.

My initials are TKG (if that helps)

Firstly well done for getting your ducks in a row. You have a pretty good description of the person you want to sell to. Well done.

Tanserene doesn't say anything - only, it *feels* gorgeous! I really like it (you'll need a tagline to clarify it).
Divine Designs feels sort-of ordinary. It's kind of out of the box type naming, like Clothes Goddess.

    how about

    Tanserene Goddess

    ??

    Hope this helps. M

A couple of other suggestions for you: Maori Goddess or Kaftani.

Thanks Jay & Moriarty for your feedback.

Jay, using the word Maori doesn't appeal to me and I doubt it would to the type of clientele I want to attract. It would be perfect if there were Maori designs on the garments but in this case, there won't be.

Many thanks - I'm still trying to find that perfect name :(

More important is that your name is perfect for your clients. That's when you should be satisfied with it!

I still think Tanserene is tops.

anyway - a few other thoughts.

Persephone - connecting with the Goddess feeling
Silk Zephyr - trying to connect with that "flowing" feeling.
    Caftan chaos - ??

    What do you think?

Thank you Moriarty for your reply : )

I've thrown Tanserene out there and responses from friends haven't been that favourable! They were of the opinion that it reminded them of tangerine!! (I am kind of liking Tanserene Goddess though).

One name I absolutely LOVED and summed it up for my business was Flaunt It but unfortunately I cannot register the domain name as it's already taken (Flaunting It is available though) but not sure how apt that is for the typical lady I want to sell to.

What about Inner Diva? Most of us women have that 'Inner Diva' in all of us! Another word I would love to use would be Envy (or it could be on the tagline i.e.: Inner Diva - be the envy of all your friends or something like that).

There's just so many ways in which I want to express the type of shop name but I'm just finding it difficult to get there.

Other key words I'm thinking are: exotic / exquisite / diva / goddess / glamour / savvy

    Many thanks

    Serene Diva
    Gossamer Diva
    Exquisitely Dreamy
    Gossamer Dreams
    Silken Savvy

I'm glad that you got some responses from the name choosing - do take care that these are the people who are buying from you. Friends' opinions are fine, only they aren't your target audience. I probably would be (50+ female) and I still think Tanserene is fantastic. It's not up to me, and any choices you do make should be up to those who buy from you. After all, it's their shop (if you get what I mean!).

As to "flaunt it" I'm sure you could get a domain name along the lines of "can you flaunt it?"

    Thanks again Moriarty.

I totally get where you are coming from in relation to my target audience, and to be honest, a lot of my friends are very keen to purchase from me (most being in their late 30's to mid 40's) so their opinions have been helpful as have yours.

Silken Savvy is getting there - but it's that "PUNCH" or ZEST I'm looking for.... i.e.: like Flaunt It - I felt it had power, sex appeal and every woman loves being envied for looking gorgeous!

I'm still wracking my brain, but am appreciating the input : )

    How about

    flaunted silk
    flaunting silk
    flaunting gossamer
    the flaunting gossamer
    gossamer flaunts
    silk flaunts
    savvy silk
    oooooooooooooooooooooh, wow!
it's when you walk in the room all heads turn
    walking on zephyrs
    walking on silk

In the mean time, ask those friends who bought from you (just those ones) what they think of a few of the names (and that includes the one you LIKE LEAST. That will tell you if your instincts are right or not. If they don't like it either, you're doing just fine!!)

    Have fun, M

    Thanks M

none of the above were ideal - didn't like anything that was "Flaunting ... or Flaunted ... " (I was just referring to the fact that Flaunt It was perfect). Gossamer reminds me of undies my gran wears and isn't appealing at all. Plus it doesn't necessarily have to have the word Silk in it either.

I guess I'll just keep wracking my brain and take your advice and throw out there other names.

    Thank you again :)

What you say is quite right - for you. Gossamer brings different things to me than scruffy undies. To me it is flowing, colourful beauty.

more importantly, what is your customer's take on this. My bet is that most of them won't have dealt with their grannies' knickers. Your best route out of all this brain-strain is to put a few in front of your customers and work out from there. My bet is that one of them will come up with the name you really like too. That will mean that you haven't wasted your time here, because it will have seeded their common imaginations to your aid.

After all, your customers are the ones that are buying! I do hope this helps.
