New Tagline For Construction Company

We are a small, family run construction company and general contractor that has been in business "serving the infrastructure needs of Baltimore" since 1885. Constructing and maintaining aging infrastructure (roads, highways, lots, etc). Construction and material supply are our two main business focuses - we sell asphalt, recycle materials, stone, etc. We also like to highlight our focus on safety as much as possible.

Currently, we are trying to update our tagline. We have used many over the last few years in a massive re-branding effort and have not found one we particularly like. Any help or suggestions would be highly appreciated...I feel like my creativity is at an all time low with this project!

    Thanks for the replies :). They all are good, and I could possibly re-word a few. I think the "building" or "builders" (etc) sounds too much like an actual construction company that does buildings. While we are a general contractor, we do asphalt, concrete and excavation, not, like houses and buildings and such.

    Who is the target audience? What do you want the tagline to do for you? Are you even sure you need or want a tagline? Where will your target audience see/hear the tagline?

    There's nothing wrong with a tagline, of course. I'm just wondering if this might be a situation where the tagline is really optional.

    Question: How will you evaluate the suggested taglines? What criteria will you use to pick a winner? How do you know if a particular tagline is "working?" What's the metric?

    It seems to me that without this kind of information, we (and you) are just embarking on a creative expedition without a real goal. Am I missing something here?

    The real goal was to get some ideas for a new tagline, which I thought I made clear. My apologies if otherwise. I was unaware that I needed metrics and grading criteria to post such a thing.

    Now, I had imagined "construction" in the manner of my old business which was housebuilding - only on the other end of the spectrum from you. In mentioning what you did, I could only think of "Digging up Baltimore's roads for 100 yrs" and "Annoying motorists for 100yrs*" until Steve gave me the green light!

    So from a slightly different angle -

    Laying the road to Baltimore for 100yrs
    Making Baltimore's roads for a century
    Paving the roads of Baltimore for generations.

    (*They'd be more annoyed with the potholes if you didn't ... ;-) )
