Names- Stay With Known Old Name Or Catchy New?

Posted by Anonymous on 60 Points
We work listings and sales in residential real estate, and we are property managers for a large number of single family homes.
I need to have a logo designed, and wanted to get some feedback to make sure I am on the right track with our Brand/Name before I move forward and invest in the logo.

My husband has been a well known realtor in our area for 15+ years. His name is recognized in the industry here and he has acquired over the years quite a good reputation and sizeable client base. During the last 5 yrs we have become a growing "team" of family members and employees working together. We have been calling ourselves by a few slightly different names; 1) Steve Doll and Team, 2) The Doll Team, 3) Steve Doll Team, 4) Doll Real Estate Team, etc.. They all sound very long, and not necessarily clever or catchy, but I feel we need to keep Steve as part of our name brand because he's our known entity and he is already our brand by his reputation among colleagues and in our local market.

Question #1: Real estate "teams" or "groups" are so commonly named simply as such. Are there any ideas out there for another style of name to use. Something other than "team" or group?

Question #2: Do we keep "Steve Doll" in the name as we have been, because he is currently our recognized known entity and we carry an established reputation with his name, ...or am I being too conservative and should we be trying to adopt a business name more unique and clever?

    Good morning, Donna

You say "he is already our brand by his reputation among colleagues and in our local market. "

This is valuable marketing "real estate". It shows that you already have credibility in the market you operate in.

My other thought is that we aren't the ones who should decide on this issue. It is your clients who should choose. Do they like your name and logo - or not? My point is to simply ask them! They may like the conservative stance, however they may not.

If the other team members don't mind, keep the name that's recognized.
Instead of "Team/Group" why not name the group: Steve Doll Presents..., so it's less focused on you, and more focused on what you're offering.

Excellent advice from Jay. "Catchy" won't help you.
