I Need A Business Name ... Cake Design

Posted by Anonymous on 250 Points
I am starting a business out of my kitchen baking special occasion cakes. My name is Tiffany and I have been told I should include it in the business name. There are endless "Tiffany" cake business names taken and I want something memorable and need a corrasponding domain name. Any ideas??? Thanks, Tiffany

You might want to question the advice that you include your name in the name of the business. It's OK, but it certainly isn't necessary. A good name usually communicates what you do and/or what important and unique benefit you provide for your target audience.

Who is the target audience? Where? How will they learn you are in business and why they might want to consider you when they need a cake? The more we know about your target audience the better able we will be to come up with a great name.

Separate issue: Be sure your local health code allows you to sell food made in a non-commercial kitchen. In many/most places that's a significant barrier to the kind of business you describe.

Echoing Michaels excellent advice, before you settle on a name you'd be well advises to comply with all local health and hygiene codes.

Following up Mr Goodman's advice - in many instances the definition of a commercial kitchen can be rather loose. I would read the legalities carefully, and if necessary get legal advice (or contact someone who is in the baking business who will be able to point you in the right direction - or even allow you the use of their premesis).

    Down to business.

    tiffanys-specials.com is free
tiffanys-special-cakes.com is also free. They would give you "Tiffany's Special Cakes" or Speciality Cakes or the likes. It seems - these being the first two I tried - that there is a lot of possibilities for your website URL.

Have fun baking cakes for special people!

If you're known in your region for delicious cakes, pick a name that's more about what people are looking for and less about you. So, why would someone choose to buy a cake from you? What type of cakes? Anything special about your ingredients? Decorations?

I agree that it's not necessary to include your name in your brand name. However, lacking any other input from you regarding how your cakes are unique and different, such as organic gluten-free cakes or some other such distinction, you do have some options using Tiffany.

For example, you could play off the rhythm and feel of "Breakfast at Tiffany's".

    Cakes by Tiffany's
    Cake Occasions by Tiffany
    CakeBaking at Tiffany's
    The Layered Cakes of Tiffany's
    Cake Celebrations by Tiffany

Also, it might be a good idea to explore a tagline for your business.
