I Need Help Marketing My Plus-size Fashion Show.

Posted by briannasmercer on 125 Points
Just to make this clear, I am not a business woman, I am just a senior in high school who is working on my senior project and i need some help with marketing, advertising and branding. I am a full figured girl and my topic of choice for my senior project is Plus-Size Modeling. Every senior has to complete a senior project in order to graduate and for my project I will be producing a plus-size fashion show. I need some help as soon as possible generating a name for my fashion show and I also need some ideas on how to advertise my production. Does anyone have any suggestions on name for my plus-size fashion and/or ideas on how to market it in the community?

Start with the end in mind. Who specifically do you imagine coming to the show? How old are they? Are they married? Single? Why would then want to come? Where do they live? Once you understand who they are, then you need to figure out what's the best way to reach this group of people - do they read the same newspaper, local website, etc.? You'll need to then figure out what you're willing to budget to reach these people. Once you've gone through this exercise, you'll have a lot more "raw material" from which to create a name that's likely to appeal to these people for the reason you've figured out.

Jay has given you some good questions to help guide the naming process.

I noticed the majority of plus-sized fashions (and modeling) are associated with a woman's name.
So maybe something along the lines of ... "The Modernized Fashions of Mae West".

This link will take you to a list of famous plus-sized women for your consideration:

    Here's a few ideas for names -

    Big is beautiful
Great Styles for the size 20s (or whatever size makes a "plus size")

Now following up on Jay's thoughts, being oversize is not something that women find nice. Some, like me can't do anything about it - I happen to be tall, and that means shopping for fashions isn't a case of choice, it's a case of if the sleeves are long enough it gets bought because there isn't anything else. What's more buying online doesn't do anything for me and if I want a choice it means travelling down to Zeeland - and that's pretty limited.

So in many cases just having the opportunity to see oversize women looking great - and confident would do a lot for them. I hope you have attended to the color matching that reduces the impact of size? All these can be brought into your show.

Whilst this isn't actually advice on how to advertise, it may help you in figuring out what questions your advertising needs to answer. My bet is that there are no few women who don't go out because they feel "fat" yet wearing some of your styles they'd actually look great.

Further to Jay's ideas, the display network on Google is great for getting advertisements into local online newspapers and publications. You can target an area and the prices are relatively inexpensive. It does take a little learning, you won't waste your time though. Sadly the Google interface is anything but easy to use, a major downside.

Good luck with the presentation - and give those girls something to go home with!

I think it depends on your audience, fellow classmates or community? Girls face skinny models wearing clothing that is made for size 0-2! I love the fact that you are reaching out to those who are not "starving" themselves to "fit in". I would stay with fun, trendy ideas to draw attention to event.
Sometimes funny or sarcastic = rememberable.

    Boldly Beautiful
Fashion Plus (or use + sign )
The Confident Ladies of --------- (school, town, county, community, state, region)
Or depending on school mascot maybe could use it somehow

Just go with your gut & make it fun. Marketing, contact local stores that carry clothing for the sizes - Catherine's Lane Bryant JCPenney etc

This is a event for my school, as well as members of my community and I have decided for the name of my show to be "Curves in Paradise: Fashion Show 2013. Thank you all for your strategies and ideas. I will most definitely take all these things into consideration as work on producing my fashion show!
