Name Suggestions For Family Business

Posted by msbackwoods on 250 Points
Struggling with a name for a shop. Will be a deer processing shop but expanding into other areas - still not sure what that is yet. Looking to fill void during non-hunting season. Maybe other outdoor supplies, clothing, fishing, country decor, seasonings, spices, etc. Can you tell I'm brainstorming...I just need the name to tell what we are but to generic at same time to not limit customer base.
Names like Joe's Deer Processing or Bob's Outdoors & Deer Processing. seem too generalized & similar to others in surrounding areas.

Located in Mississippi so wanted to stay with a southern outdoors tradition homestyle theme. Keep it local & personal but appeal to men & women of various ages.

Sorry if I'm too generalized but wanted some fresh ideas from people "outside" my circle of friends & family.

It's vital that you understand exactly who your best customers are (and are likely to be). If you carry the same stuff as others, how will you differentiate yourself from them? What will you do that's different/better?

And you're right - too general won't likely appeal to your audience. That's why it's important to understand who they are.

Deer season is a relatively short season in most US states including Mississippi (from fall to early winter, depending). What are your hunting and fishing seasons? Wouldn't fishing season be at different months in Mississippi?

The simply solution would be "Bob's Hunting & Fishing", using your real first or last name, of course. But then again, it could be "Bob's Hunting and Hiking" or "Bob's Hunting and Camping".

You haven't given us enough info to be specific in our solutions.

Also, what are the words of the "southern outdoors tradition homestyle theme"?

    Thank you for your input.
    To answer your questions:

Fishing is more spring/summer/early fall, where deer is during the fall.

words " southern outdoors tradition homestyle " were key words that I want people to associate with our business

Hunters would be our primary customer.

Since deer is seasonal, we would want to "make money" however all year long in order to pay rent/utilities year round.

Undecided what to do the months of March - September to make this money. Throwing around various ideas from: Sportsman's accessories - Rustic gifts/decor - spices/seasonings (which will offer during winter for DIY cooks).

Ages of potential clients would be 18+ male and female (purchases depending on product could even be for under 18 (clothing/accessories)

I wonder how many restaurants there are in your area? Would it not be possible to have a venison focused cafe or bar? Or has this been done?

    The Venison Joint

only it's not very "southern", is it?

A further question: what do other people/businesses do in this low period, or do they simply pull down the shutters?

No cafes, it is illegal to sell venison in US unless it is farm raised. The others either close up or one has a sporting goods like gander mountain bass pro on small level. The closest processor to us is over 50 miles away so we are in a good area for the business
