Hi Lisa - in a world that is overcrowded with accessory stores, you need to have something special up your sleeve. You do have something special in that the two (?) stores can be linked across the planet. Which could be fun ... are you setting up a store in India and a store in the UK, or how are you going to arrange this?

Now apart from that, you need something special that makes you noticed by your customers. In that you say it has to talk to your customers, what is it that they see in you??? Because looking at things from their point of view will immediately make anything namewise almost write itself.

Another point: do your customers like acronyms? Or will they see UYDSEW and think "huh?". Whatever you do, whatever you choose - make sure you test it on your target clients! Asking clients is the easiest way to get things right in a way that you never thought of before. Customers are very special creatures! Magical even.

So: let's try a few ideas for you

    The Anglo-Indian Haberdashery
    Anglo-Indian Accessories
    Trans-Planetary Enterprises.

I'm not very good at acronyms ... sorry!

"retail / online retail store specializing in accessories / shoes / clothes etc.. for Women and men" - can you be more specific? It would seem that you're targeting most of the world for your offerings, but clearly not everyone would be interested. Can you be specific about who specifically - their age range, income level, marital status, style, etc.? Are you making your own goods, or selling someone else's? If the latter, how will you distinguish yourself from your competition?

Thank you for the idea Moriartry

Yes the 2 stores will be linked... The specialty is the quality and prices... thats the feedback from most of our customers so far.. they are in awe when they see the kind of low prices they are paying for real quality stuff.
We are looking at setting up a Brand Name.. the store will be in both locations and online as well...

Like I mentioned they ladies are gaga over our goods...they cannot believe how good the quality of the goods is since they are paying almost 50% lowers than other established brands.

We'r not Anglo Indians... so that wont work.. and I dont think we should get the brand to spell a particular culture like the Anglo Indias...

    What is Haberdashery

Its mostly Accessories and shoes and a very limited collection for clothes for now.. we will add more range later... and yes my friend I want to target the world :)
Interest is something I need to create via my marketing strategy, quality of products, price benefits etc..
I would say men and women from their mid teens like 15 to late 50 / 60... income would not be a barrier anyone who can afford to shop.... any marital status any style.. they can buy what they like or they think will suit their style.

    Yes making our own goods...

Hi Lisa - actually I meant "Anglo-Indian" in the way of Britain and India! I guess you could take it the other way - I lived in other parts of Asia where Anglo-Indians didn't live.

A warning first about price: anybody can undercut you. So please do not focus on this, and in any case, if your stuff really is as good as your customers think it is, you could easily quadruple the price and not lose much business. Because if you are offering real quality - quality of service, aftersales, listening to customer's needs, quality of materials and tailoring. All of this puts you on a pedestal.

This is the direction I would like to follow - as I say, price is a dangerous weapon that only makes people want even more for less. When they have to pay for something that really is worth what you ask for it, that is when you get genuinely good clients. What's more, they'll come back year after year, and usually bring their friends along too. So let's have Indians earning more than Brits for a change, shall we?

This is imporant: you have some clients. From the question it didn't sound as if you had. I am very pleased that you have - and that you got such fantastic reviews too. Was there anything else that they liked about your clothes apart from the quality-price aspect? Did they feel great in them? Would they want to come back - and as importantly, what do they say about you to their friends??? Because getting their "friends" to come (ie people who are like them) is the idea. People who like you will buy more and stay around longer.

This also neatly side-steps the need to speak to anybody and everybody. Speak to the people who are like your best customers and you will find you have a business that has foundations. They aren't your foundations, they are a community of people who like what you do.

So: I want you to write down a conversation you had with your raving fan, and then include a few of their choicest words with us. Or entire sentences. The flavour of what you write will be key to the things you should have on your website too. Okay? Over to you!

This is great stuff Moriarty.. thanks..

I have some Anglo Indian connection from my in laws end... so lets keep it at bay... :)

I get what your saying.. just the price - quality should not be the specialty of my business... since I do intend to sell the stuff at what its worth.. and yes.. while I am doing that I'd like to make profits as well.. so far its good..
It is true that anybody can undercut my prices.. no big deal..
Yes the focus will be quality products / quality after sales & rewards to the customer

I will be working on the whole strategy and targeting the community of customer + their friends and then a larger market etc.. its all a phase wise business plan...

I am stuck on the name though.. since I cant seem to get something that strikes.

So some of the statements have been
    WOW... simply wow
Some customers have ordered for stuff that is out of stock and are willing to wait for it

Its not clothes so much right now.. more focus on accessories.. and they love the print..the designs..the material it is made of.
    Indian Designs...etc.....

I am desperate for a name..

"Some customers have ordered for stuff that is out of stock and are willing to wait for it" - best news I've heard all day!

Names: your name needs to chime with your customers. So don't worry if you don't think it's that good - as long as they do. It's for them after all, just like your accessories and garments. So when you have a half dozen, just ask those who you meet in your shops and put the question to them. Which one do they like best?? If you still don't like it, come back here and we'll go through it all again, by which time you'll also have heaps more to tell us about what they said as well.

Going for quality and service should stand you in good stead. The above quote speaks to that. Because if you can get clients who don't mind waiting - that's gold dust. Take very careful notes of what they are like, what they like and make sure that all your advertising ideas are presented to that kind of person. They are the ones who will send their friends along.

    Enough!

    Names -

    Silk Specials (you do silk??)
Elegance a Deux (that's both of you!)
Elegance de Deux (that's by both of you)
Double Zephyr (thinking flowing dresses and gowns - the sort of thing you wear in India when it's hot)
Double Stitches (a bit lumpy, but still two of you)
    Style Doubled

Any better - and please tell us which ones you liked (and why) and which ones you didn't (and why). We can go on from there - and if you have your own ideas, please share them!!! It's more fun when you join in.
