Who is your primary target audience? Where? What do you want them to know about you that isn't communicated in the name? Why do you feel it's important to have a tagline or slogan? What will it do for you?

How will you select a winner if we come up with a number of candidates? What are the criteria?

A nasty one: "Would you let a man in the house?"
A nice one: "Because Girls Care"

Believe me, I've worked with guys whose idea of keeping the dust down is to put a piece of plasterboard on the floor and start up the 9" angle-grinder to slice through the concrete. In a living room. No preparations, no questions asked, no liaising with the customer. He marches in and by the time he's finished the place is grey and the owner in tears.

Which is where I came into my own. I was doing the carpentry work on the job, and yes, I'm a girl.

I was horrified. Okay, one of the worst cases, only with our UK firm I saw the footprints from the plasterers going up the road. Thank goodness I'd put drapes down all the access routes that morning. I dread to think what the cleaning charges would have been.

Now this is important and reflects what Mr Goodman has said - who are the most likely people to want your services. Both men and women. There are things that girls do better - listening is one of them. I guess you'll agree that if you don't listen to your kids, you won't get very far as a family. It's the same with customers, only some people seem to get on just fine by not listening to them. I know from the stacks of references I have from my old decorating business that this was my forte.

Now allow me to say this, I was only doing what came naturally to me.

That people thought this somehow special astonished me. That was when things slowly dawned on me that most people didn't - and that showed me that I could make a living as a marketer. Which is, after all, all about communication, and listening is as big a part as any. That it is forgotten by many doesn't mean it should be.

    Another try:
"I turn your dreams into the home you live in"

    What do you think?
