Tagline For Pet Grooming Tool

Posted by lea.richards on 500 Points
Hi all!

I know you've all heard of the pedi paws groomer tool (kind of like a dremmel for nails) and if you have one - you know its the pits.

Well, we've created a pet grooming tool that people and pets both actually like AND one that works!

We're calling it Ezy Paws and the mascot will be our schnoodle, Noodle.

We need a bit of help coming up with a fun and catchy tagline. The product itself is lime green and marketed to be fun and easy to use.

Any help is much appreciated!

do you have any testimonials from professional dog groomers? Or consumer feedback/? What are they saying?

We've all had positive responses from both areas -- pro's and consumers.

great, what did they say. That's the part that will help us help you, the details.

Great marketing starts with great product. Tell us what makes Ezy Paws different from Pedi Paws, and why you think it's better. If it's only the lime green color; you have a serious product problem. Perhaps there's a functional difference as well.

Then let's probe the benefit for the customer. WHY do they buy products like this? Does Pedi Paws not deliver the benefit? Are there significant drawbacks that Ezy Paws avoids?

Finally, let me encourage you to not make "catchy" a requirement of the tagline. Instead find a way to extend the benefit suggested by the name ("easy") to a consumer benefit and/or an emotional payoff. WHAT is easy? Easy compared to what? Why should someone care?

P.S. How are people going to learn about this product? Where will they buy it (if they want it)?

I get where you guys are going with this, and yes, all of those elements have long been considered.

It is a large functional difference in that this product does not grab the nails when you're doing them, is exceptionally easy to handle and is at a noise level that does not scare the dogs in any way.

So far these two comments have been less than helpful, but I do understand the thinking behind. Let's all assume from this point on that we're aware of how to market something and are looking (and asking this specific question) for a reason.

    Thanks.

I don't think you do "get it". A great tagline is based on great forthcoming input from you. We are not mind readers ... what is "our schnoodle, Noodle", why are there "noise levels" and so on? Good luck with your post.

Hold on. If our comments are "less than helpful," maybe we don't understand what you are asking or why.

You say, "We need a bit of help coming up with a fun and catchy tagline." What's the purpose of the tagline? What do you want it to do for you? What are you hoping to communicate with the tagline?

Usually a tagline is supposed to explain or expand upon the name, to communicate a unique and important benefit for the customer. How can we do that if we don't know more about the product and about the benefit your target audience is seeking?

I think maybe we're not looking at this the same way. Help us understand what you are trying to accomplish with the tagline. Then we'll be in a position to provide input that you will find more helpful.

Firstly, I had never heard of a schnoodle - I meet a labradoodle regularly who is walked down my back lane now and again. Are they easily recognizable - or at least don't expect Noodle to be recognized as anything but a dog. Just an aside. I'm a dog lover and former owner, but certainly no expert. When it came to paws and claws, that was the local vet's job.

So you have a tool that does this nicely and quietly - and without hurting the dog. It's also a quality machine. I trust the packaging it comes in reflects this! My guess is that you've made it a good sturdy - and attractive - storage box to put in the "dog's drawer" or on the dog's shelf.

This is me thinking aloud, by the way. Imagining what you've got before I dip my toes in the water.

You have used this, what did other people using it tell you about it? The immediate difference between the two machines (you and the competition) will be relatively small. The effective difference will only become apparent later, perhaps even years later. Do you have any written reviews, or could you transcribe what they said with some degree of accuracy (or give the flavor of what they said, at least). This will give us a clue as to how others see your product - which I can't see apart from in my imagination.

So what would you say to me as a dog-owner that would encourage me to buy my own claw trimmer? Bear in mind that I would rather have this done by the vet who I trust not to hurt my dog. That means I'm not even scheptical about your product: I simply don't see it as being necessary. All of which means I'm exactly the kind of person who *might just* buy one.

The other direction is to hammer the competition "better than" in the advertising blurb.

So having formed a picture of a dog owner trimming claws and the dog if not enjoying the experience is at least tolerating it. It's a neat machine that will do this for years and years. So here goes!

five years from now you'll still be trimming Noodle's paws.
Now Noodle likes having his paws trimmed.
The other machine made Noodle's ears go flat back!
Noodle doesn't growl any more when you go to his toolbox.

All a little wordy, you get the idea. Do you like the images they evoke? Are they the sort of things that your target audience would regard as important?

    Long lasting, quiet and painless
    Sleek long lasting design
Making both pet and owner happy
You and your pet in claw heaven
No more scratches on the floor, no more growls from Noodle.
Years and years of gentle paw trimming
The claw reducer. Smooth and silent.

What do you think of these?

"I get where you guys are going with this ..."

Where did you think we were going? Just curious, because I don't think we were "going" anywhere. We were trying to learn enough about your product, business and target audience to be helpful.

I'd be interested in what you meant when you typed that.

Thanks. Hopefully in the future more people with different perspectives participate, besides the 2 that did. The old version was better.

Actually four of us participated. The "old version" of what?
