Gift Card Mall Name

Posted by jayme.mcclellan on 250 Points
We are launching a business that will help consumers easily select and personalize gift cards to select merchants (i.e. high end boutique, clothing store, restaurant, bistro, art, etc).

We are very selective in who we allow to be listed as the goal is to allow people to purchase quality gift cards that the recipients will love.

Any thoughts on a concise name for our "gift card mall" that focuses on unique, easy, fun, high-end?

So these are cards that have gift-vouchers (tokens) in them for the stores you mention? Am I right?

Who is the ideal customer in terms of businesses - or consumers? Your name needs to connect with them. After all, they're the ones buying!

They are gift cards to the merchants themselves. We are targeting consumers in their upper 20s to 50s who want to send gift cards to somewhere other than a big box store.

I'm not getting your business model. Will your business name and a specific "small box store" name be on the card? If not, what's on the card? Could you expand on how all this will work, the big picture?

Is this something where you sell cards to the businesses so they can put their names on them? Is that the general idea?

Let me see if this helps to explain. There are many gift card malls out there today where you can purchase gift cards for Apple, Best Buy, Nordstrom, etc. We are doing a similar model, but for small local businesses. (see https://www.giftcardmall.com/ as an existing model).

Steve and Moriarty, I should reference www.giftbar.com. This is actually more similar to our business model.

I greatly appreciate any thoughts that pop into your mind. Many of the names we have thought of are either taken or aren't quite "it".

Giftbar was a much better site, thanks for the links.

Your gift cards are for people to give to others that allow them to spend at ANY of your designated stores. I'll assume a yes until told otherwise.

Whatever you do make sure that the name chimes with your target audience. It matters not a jot that it doesn't click with you - it matters one hell of a lot if it doesn't click with them ;-)

Now are you serving a (metropolitan) area? You could have this in your name too.

    winingdiningvoucher* (it's a start, okay!!)
    theshoppingcocktail*
    winingdiningshoppingmix (a bit wordy)
    vouchermix*
    mixyourmatch
    shoppingbouquet*
    bouquetarray*
    bouquethooray*

*and is available as a .com

What do you think? What do you (not) like about them, we can put minds into your direction then.

You're right, the best ones are already registered dot com domains. You can bid for some of them if they aren't being used.

These are a little on the long side, but currently available:

    pickagiftcard.com
    giftcardgenerator.com
    giftcardsalacarte.com
    localgiftcardindex.com

    Moriarty:

"Your gift cards are for people to give to others that allow them to spend at ANY of your designated stores." Yes, this is correct, but we also allow users to send a gift card that can be used at a single merchant as well. Yes, we are serving metropolitan areas within the US.

The Shopping Cocktail has the fun vibe we are looking for, but I don't want to be so close to GiftBar as we really want our own identity.

Steve: You are on target with the local part.

Our objective is to provide a fun, fast way to send a gift, whether the individual is in the same town or far away. We want to bring joy to recipients so they feel the sender of the gift card put a lot of thought into the gift (this is where the personalization part comes in). The behind the scenes objective is to help bring visibility and commerce to local merchants vs. the big box stores.

I truly appreciate the time you have spent helping us find the right name. Its not there yet, but you have given me other names for inspiration. If anything else comes to mind, please post and I hope to share when we find that right name!

    Local Gift Cards
    Shop Local Afar
    The Little Gift Card

    IntimateCocktail
    PersonallyPoppingCorks
    fizzygifts

Personally I didn't see any connection between theshoppingcocktail and giftbar. Save that they are effectively serving the same market.

Sorry, I didn't have time to check availability. Are these any more likeable? I'm struggling with something that says "voucher" but isn't so pedestrian.

Thank you all for taking the time to post your suggestions. We ended up coming up with some unique names that work for us, that weren't quite so literal of the business itself.
