Needing Help With A Tag Line That Is Unique

Posted by Anonymous on 250 Points
We own a small decorative concrete business and are changing our name! We want something catchy but not leave anyone guessing what we do. Can anyone give us some suggestions? We do stamped, colored, salt finish, etc. we also construct unique customer created pools and spas. Do we need a separate business name for that?

Okay - so you have a business and it's running. No wannabes, no hopefuls. More importantly you have customers who come to you - what are they saying about you that is special about you. Not just the "they did a great job and went that extra mile" biz. Something that tells us about you guys and your work.

Where are these decorative finishes used? Driveways, walls ... ?

Why are you changing the name at all - do your customers not like it, after all there will be confusion from returning customers who won't know who you are (and they're the lifeblood of any small business).

If your pools are concrete, and my guess is that they are - keep it under one roof.

The general rule is that if the target audiences are different from each other, or if the benefits are different, then you probably need two different names.

Who are your customers? Where? When and why do they purchase your product? Why do they choose you? What unique and important benefit do you deliver for them? Is it the same benefit for both audiences? Are they the same people, or are they different?

The fact that the material is the same for both (i.e., concrete) is truly irrelevant. If you sell wooden fences, you couldn't extend your expertise in wood to fine carpentry or furniture. Same with concrete -- unless your products provide the same benefit for the same target audience.

Thank u soo much for the ideas!! We are changing the name due to my mother
In law taking over for a year to build it into something my husband had in his mind when he started
But I think the idea of owning and running a business were more than what we thought. It's a temporary
Switch to her name for credit purposes.. Gotta have money to make it!! And she has that :) but I have a really great feeling this is exactly what my husband needed.

Why don't you just add her name to the formal title of the business? I'm no expert on the legal side of things, so can't comment on that - what's important here is that the customers you need to retain with a changeover like this aren't lost in the process.
