Freshen The Name Of Long Running Fundraiser

Posted by Anonymous on 200 Points
I work with a non profit educational foundation that provides grant funding to enhance the educational experience beyond what the school district is able to fund. We have a long running fall fundraising event and want to freshen/update the name but keep the word "Harvest" in the mix. It is a casual outdoor event held during fall harvest season. There is music, wine, micro brew and hard cider tasting, food prepared from local farms and orchards, silent and live auctions. Any ideas for an event name and tag line are greatly appreciated.

What's the name of your non-profit? What school district? Located where? Who specifically has attended in the past? Why? What was the old name & for how long & why change what's been working?

The name of the organization is the Yakima Schools Foundation. We work in conjunction with but independent of the Yakima School District in Yakima, WA. For the last 17 years the event has been known as Tour de Harvest. It was a play on Tour de France because a bike ride through the country orchards was included followed by a picnic lunch. Over the years as the city has grown and the orchards have disappeared the bike ride portion went away (hasn't been used in 10 years ) and the dinner replaced the picnic. The silent and live auctions were added soon after. The event is attended by business leaders and professionals in our community, teachers and administrators from the school district, retired professionals, and community leaders.

    How about

    Educational Harvest
    Harvesting Knowledge

Not very good - could you tell me if you like the direction?

You could name it something like "The Yakima Tour de Force", but at this point it sounds like including the word "Harvest" is also a stretch naming-wise. Why not start afresh completely, including in the next marketing (for a year or two) "formerly known as Tour de Harvest" to keep some continuity?

Moriarty, I like the path you're on. It's not easy trying to combine Harvest and kids/education.

Jay Hamilton-Roth, We have tried to come up with a completely new name but the board really wants to try and stay with Harvest in the name.

    Keep Thinking!
