You're older - well I'm in the same boat. I want you to use your imagination: imagine your best client.

Who are they? What do they like, dislike? Who are their family, circumstances, job, income and their postcode. They especially like travelling to Antwerp which isn't famous for its Jugendstil houses - that doesn't worry them as the place still looks fantastic. It's right up their street, and there are streets of them. They will need a name too.

Address everything you do to them. Tagline, advertising copy - the whole caboodle.

This is all about focussing on who your clients are - in the most physical kind of way. As your business develops, you can embellish them with the things you discover about them. When you have a bad client, those are the things they don't like about their boss or the annoying guy who keeps kicking you on the tube home.

With this, you can start targeting them online. Sure, it's a big hurdle - only if you have this person in mind, you'll have jumped the biggest one. It's also the one that's so hard to jump that 99% of marketers out there don't even know it's there. Further advice can be had at https://askhowie.com where I learned all this. BTW Did you factor in marketing costs?

Now: does Quirky Cuckoo speak to your target/imaginary client about what you do? If not, convince them in your mind and see what taglines appear as you speak in your mind and they're relaxing in a garden chair sipping your home-made lemonade.

Thanks for that Moriarty Ive got to target a section of the public rather than try tpo please all of the people allof the time Focus on the obvious have confidence yes I did think of marketing costs came in with the research stupid name I noe but I always was the cuckoo in the nest That would be a good one but it doesnt tell people what I do and all Im coming up with is pretty mundane against the others on these sites Ive looked although they are specific to handmade gem jewellery want something classy but catchy will keep thinking trouble is some of my designs are not from a 66 year old and as its probably their first point of contact I realise how crucial it is that its right thanks again

Just one moment - your best customers won't be worry about how old you are for one moment. In a way, its one huge advantage. You have style and the experience that years can give.

Your tagline doesn't need to be 'catchy' it needs to communicate. Communicate first and it'll catch the eye of the people you need to catch! Mundane it may be, that's not the point. It's not for you and others may not find it mundane on first sight. They'll think jewellery and all that evokes in their mind. Plus you'll get more ideas as feedback drips through. People say things about the things you've done and believe me, you'll be astonished.

style66.co.uk is available ;-) You could title the site "Style 66: Hand Made Gemstone Jewellery" Simple, direct. And honest. After all, how many frauds will claim to be age 66?? Really, it's kudos, kid!

To my mind, for SEO (that is getting your website found by Google) the most important elements are a consistent content. More than the URL these days. If everything you write has a focus - which you have - it'll find its intended market. Just remember to listen to the things your visitors did to find you. Ask their questions - because a search engine can't answer a question. It only reflects the input line - gets the best match to the words put in the search box.

Does this help a little? M xx
