Name For A Counselling Centre In Victoria Bc

Posted by georgebielay on 250 Points
Hello, I'm looking for ideas/suggestions for a name for a Counselling Centre in Victoria BC, Canada. This centre has yet to be established, and will likely have between 4-8 counsellors. I'm wanting the name to convey the following; professional, confidence, experienced, wisdom, hope, change, optimism, support.

Some thoughts I've had are the following;
GREATER VICTORIA PROFESSIONAL COUNSELLING GROUP/CENTRE
VICTORIA ALLIANCE OF COUNSELLING SPECIALISTS

Thanks for you thoughts.

What kind of counselling are you specializing in? Do you have any counsellors as yet? How are you going to get clients? Are they state funded (I haven't a clue!) or will they be funding themselves or through insurance?

All of these things will help your naming process as it will attract the attention of the people who need you.

You will be an experienced counsellor in some manner or form; what have past patients told you about your own strengths and weaknesses? These will filter through into the larger picture as you are the guiding influence.

As to the things you need to convey - it's the "finished article" we need to look at. What kind of results can you offer in concrete terms? After all, they won't want to come to you and have their fingers bitten off (which is what happens if they get too close to me - my philosophy is that they've learned a lesson and will be the wiser for it).

My thoughts are straying towards patience, determination and thoroughness. All of which speak of an authority and professionalism but without needing to state it.

What are your thoughts on this?

Thanks for you thoughts and questions. Let me try to answer them. The centre will provide 'general" counselling, however, each counsellor will have an area of expertise, namely, marriage/relationship, anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder, general stress, depression, anger management, grief/loss, eating disorders, sexuality/sex issues etc.

The Center is not publically funded, and folks will pay out of pocket, some will be covered by their insurance providers, some won't (this depends on the insurer).

What former clients say are helpful characteristics of the counselling process are the following; patience and support, excellent listening skills and being able to hone in on the central issues, and therefore hone in on the solutions process much more effectively.

I like the notion of conveying professionalism & authority through patience, determination and thoroughness.

Thanks for you time and efforts.

It makes sense to put the region you serve in your name ("Greater Victoria" or simply "Victoria") as well as the word "Counselling" - that'll quickly convey the gist of what you offer. As for using the word "group" or "specialists" - will that matter to who you're trying to target? Will they primarily care that you have a group of different specialists under one roof - or - are they looking for something that distinguishes yourselves from the other counselling therapists in the area? Are you simply trying to be a "all specialists under one roof" or will you focus on specific needs/problems/ages?

The intention is to have a group of specialists under one roof. Furthermore, the distinguishing idea of the Centre from other local Counselling Centres is that we will help people find the most appropriate counsellor for them.

When people are looking for a counsellor, they either ask a trusted friend, or they essentially have to "throw a dart" at the local listings and hope they find someone appropriate. I intend to help folks take the guesswork out of finding an appropriately suited therapist by also providing a thorough clinical assessment of their needs/issues/objectives, and based on that, refer them to someone specific.

So having said all that, in addition to this being a general counselling centre, with in-house specialists, this is also a assessment and referral type service (at no cost to the client).

    Thanks for you thoughts.

So really you're a matchmaking service! Which from what you've described is a sensible idea.

A few questions before I take a stab at this:

Will the counsellors use this as their main base, or only as an occasional meeting place when needed?

    Ideas:

Counsellor Matchmaker - Specific help that gets you sorted.
Solved! - We are patient, determined and specific to your needs. (that last bit hasn't come out right)
The Cure Station. Throrough and specific, our counsellors are ready to guide.
The Cure Point. One place many faces. Thorough, calm and determined to help.

    Mix 'n match!

My suggestion is to use a safe/strong name (Victoria + Counselling + Group), but add a tagline to further describe the synergy you achieve using the group.
