Branding, Logo For New Business Retail-online Shop

Posted by Anonymous on 25 Points
I need help deciding on a permanent name before I launch my website. As of right now I have an etsy site and Facebook fan page with the name I had choosen on a whim. The Facebook page links you to my website, and that just says online ordering coming soon-under construction type of thing. I started reclaiming vintage lights and furniture and the response was overwhelming. I liked The name Barn Lights but went with Junkyard Jems as barn lights was taken on etsy. My friend has just joined me and we are going to be launching the retail store online and we are looking into leases to open our business. We have a meeting with a design company next week for logo, branding and website design. I would like to be able to go to the meeting with at least the name we want to go with.
So do you think I should stick with Junkyard Jems? How does that name appeal to my market? Is it clear enough and catchy? I woul really appreciate any feedback on the current name and also would love some fresh ideas for a new one.
To give you an Idea of what my store is like I will list my top five sellers; vintage blue mason jar pendant and vanity lights
Reclaimed furniture that's been distressed and painted with chalk paint
Window pane picture frames
Old door headboards
Enamel colander lighting

You've had an amazing response to the things you make - which is something in itself. You obviously have a passionate fan/customer base, so my approach will leverage the things they have to say about your business.

So let's turn this question about 180 degrees - not for my ends, not for my gratification, but yours. Because you're not in business to sell to yourself or a logo/web designer. They'll take your money fast enough, it's your customers who'll *give* it to you.

So seeing things from their point of view will make you money.

Which is what business is all about.

So when you say "How does that name appeal to my market?"

What does your market actually say about this? Were I asked as your consultant to answer this, I'd start by digging into your sales data to discover that answer. Not mine, and not my imagination. Your data, your customers and your business.

    Because that's what counts.

So: find out what product is making you the most profit in the space of a week or a month. Not the most sales, or the most popular. The one that makes you the most profit, and believe me, the two things aren't always connected.

Work out why your customers like this, find out what they're like and why they're buying them. And sell a few more. You've got a big enough fan base, so try it on them! Get some response and bathe in the feedback!

It just so happens that junkyardjems.com is available, as is junkyardgems.com - which you may want just to make sure of spelling errors ;-) Personally I can't see anything wrong with it, if it describes what you do in a way that connects to those who are buying.
