Tagline For Alternative Vet Practice?

Posted by bahamutchild on 250 Points
I am starting a mobile veterinary practice which will provide Eastern/Alternative/Complementary medicine in my area (part, but not all, of the DelMar part of DelMarVa). I believe in an integrative approach to medicine, but as I don't offer Western Medicine, I can't offer full integrative medicine myself.

The practice is called Veterinary Alternative Care. I will be treating horses, pets/small animals/exotics, and livestock, so 'pets' does not describe my potential clients' animals very well. I'll be providing services to a wide variety of clients. My services include acupuncture, tui na (acupressure-massage), spinal manipulation for horses (this fall), and herbal medicine.

Words like wellness, health, etc are good if I go for a descriptive tagline.

So why do you think you need a tagline? What do you want it to communicate that the name does not? Where/how would you use the tagline?

Initially I thought that the tagline could reference the "mobile" feature, but that could detract from the main message communicated with the name. Animal owners who want alternative treatment, it seems to me, will find you and respond to the name without being concerned with mobile-or-not. And simpler is always better, as long as it communicates the primary benefit message.

I'm wanting the tagline primarily for business cards, to help clarify what I offer. It would also be good for flyers I can put up at key locations in the area. Depending on the tagline, it could also be good for the webpage (in progress), or I may just place a longer mission statement on the homepage.

And you're probably right about the mobile feature. The horse people will generally assume it is. The dog/cat people I may be treating their pets primarily at vet clinics in the area which I partner with. Still working on that part though.

From your perspective, why do people contact you? Are there specific pet health maladies that aren't easily treated with Western care? Or, do their owners predominantly use "alternative" care for their own health, and therefore believe the same type of care for their pets?

I have used homeopathy and herbal remedies extensively on my family, pets and the garden. My initial feelings about such methods is that they are gentle, effective and not necessarily quick in acting. That is to say, modern medicine is great when it comes to accidents or surgery - but not when it comes to the actual business of healing.

Let's have a go at a few taglines, shall we? After all, it's what you asked for.

"Veterinary Alternative Care" - A gentler approach to healing
sensible, effective and non toxic ................................. [now some remedies are toxic, but you get my drift. If you can put in a word that describes more closely, by all means do so! It's late at night here and I'm about to fall off my perch].
    - accupuncture, massage and herbal healing
    - alternative therapies are for vets too
    - vets that use alternative therapies
    - using alternative therapies

I've been mainly thinking about people who won't be expecting herbs/accupuncture on animals. In my experience, few people know about these when used for humans and don't think animals can be healed using placebos ;-)

What are your thoughts on these, what would you include (remove)? Is there any direction that these aren't pointing in that you'd prefer to look? I can have another go in the morning.

Do remember to ask pet/animal owners what they think - especially your best customers and those who aren't customers at all (the ones who might or might not be interested).

A lot of referral cases tend to be chronic- Western medicine can't help any further, or can't even determine the cause enough to treat it effectively. Owners can also have an interest in alternative medicine, as Mori mentioned. There are also acute issues that can be helped with an integrative approach. Acupuncture tends to have two big uses: Musculo-skeletal pain and internal medicine (from bladder infections to seizures). So there's a long list of health issues which can be treated.

    So brainstorming from the list...
'All Animal Complementary Therapies' (seems a bit repetitive?)

I like the second one- Just listing the modalities I currently offer. I could summarize as
'Eastern Medicine and Spinal Manipulation' Or expand a little:
'Offering Eastern Medicine and Spinal Manipulation for All Animals.'

Or: 'Offering Traditional Chinese Medicine and Spinal Manipulation.'

    'Complementary Therapies for All Animals'
'Complementary therapies for your animal's improved well being.'

Or something with health in it. My creative brain just flickered out :)

    Thanks!

Sorry, I missed your response. It had disappeared under other responses from later that day.

    Taking your first suggestion -

    "Complementary Therapies For Your Pet"
Complementary Therapies that work for your pet

you could have "animal" for pet, but it's less personal.

"Improving your pet's life with gentle, complementary therapies" - - - It's a bit long-winded, it does get the message across. Because your therapies are gentle and they do heal.

    any better ???
