Perhaps you could tell us your branding story. As a PR professional, this writing assignment should be right up your alley. Maybe something as simple as a press release announcing/introducing the firm to its niche clientele would suffice.

Steve's idea is frankly brilliant. There are some of us around here who wished they'd thought of that one ... never mind, imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.

The essence of what Steve is saying is to see your business from the point of view of your customer. What is the focus of your strengths that your best kind of customer would really appreciate? Seeing yourself from this perspective should make writing out that short statement should be easy.

Now so far we haven't any names. You'll have to let us know if any of these fit the things you wrote, and less importantly if you like them.

    The Loudhailer
Bass Woofer PR [I think you can get where I'm coming from ... ]
The PR Whisperer [knockoff, but so what?]
    The Shoutabout

Well, they're creative ... as to whether they're effective or useful is quite another matter. That's the problem with creative types, they dip their chocolates in engine oil.

:) Thank you so much for your feedback Steve. I just started by own PR firm after working with various international PR firms. The clients that I have with me in hand currently are my old clients which I have serviced before. My strength lies manly in consumer / healthcare PR. Coming up with various "out of the box" ideas and strategies for my clients has never been a problem, but I seem to be having a total mental block coming up with a name for my PR firm.

Thanks Moriarty for the suggestion of names. I personally like "The PR Whisperer". :) Thank you again.

Believe me, focusing on yourself is the hardest thing to do. You do have customers - and they'll have given you references. Take a look through them - peel off the standard-issue references "wonderful, good service" etc - and try to find the ones that say something specific about the way you do things. Those are your clue as to what your customers see in you, see in your strengths that they value.

I've done that, and it really brings you a focus you hadn't considered before. One customer rview mentioned that I had "een gezonde dosis humor" - a healthy dose of humor. Knowing what they'd seen, I tend to lean that way when meeting new clients as it's something my best ones appreciate.

I hope this helps you to clarify what is an impossibly hard thing to realize in practical terms. What's more, you have the evidence at your fingertips, and it need only take an hour. You'll never have invested your time so effectively. Remember also that out of the box thinking is great, but needs a focus - otherwise you can come up with some very strange ideas ...

Thanks Moriarty...yes you have certainly helped me in more ways than one. There are a dime and dozen PR agencies and the standard liners are "great media contacts...amazing services, etc" and that is certainly the liners I want to stay away from :). Yes, I do have the tendency to come up with strange ideas and I know I have to put a cap on that. :)

Now - my point was not to put a cap on them, but to stream them. There's no use dipping chocolates in engine oil ... mixing herrings and banana ... pizzas with pieces of wood on them ... What you need is a focus. Find it - and suddenly all that wayward energy is channeled and guided into something that connects. After all, in the right place, a strange idea becomes an innovation.

Never, ever cap a talent. Just use it at the right time!

Let me know what you find from your researches and I'll come up with some ideas focussed on that. You can then choose one you like - or ask your clients which they like best. After all, it's for them, not us! Have fun!
