Need Help With A Business Name

Posted by rhonda_armstrong6 on 250 Points
I am looking to commence an online business selling Pet products. My interest will be with pet gift baskets for different & special occasions such as birthdays, new puppy and also puppy litter packs. I feel that the gift basket won't be enough to keep interest from the public and so i will also be selling the gift basket items and other products (id tags, toys) separate. I am looking to purchase other pet related products that people find hard to sorce in the pet shops. I am looking for a catchy name that will entice people to click on that is relevant to my products

Before you invest time in names (which need to be relevant, not catchy), have you carried out enough market research, business planning, and marketing planning?

Are you sure your site can and will rank on the first pages of Google, Bing, and Yahoo? Have you calculated monthly site traffic, monthly conversions, average value of sale, and monthly total sales to give you an idea of revenue and cash flow?

Will you work as an affiliate, or will you be responsible for product selection, stocking, warehousing, order taking, fulfillment, shipping, refunds, and returns?

"I am looking for a catchy name that will entice people to click on that is relevant to my products" - a name may invite some curiosity, but a name alone won't achieve your goals magically. A name is part of a larger marketing strategy (some of the points that Gary has raised). Since there are lots of online pet product vendors, you need to clearly identify why someone would choose to buy from you instead of any of your competition (online or brick-and-mortar). What pet owner can you serve that isn't being well-served today? How can you reach them?

Rhonda, starting small and working up and out is the very best way to start. Done with care and a passion, you'll either make it - or find an opportunity that's better. Either way, meeting the needs of your customers and using this as your marketing strategy will bring you results one way or the other. Since you will be doing this in person, your enticement is your good self. It'll take some courage, but then dogs are one of the best ways to engage with other humans! Once you have engaged them, they'll be way more likely to buy - if not now, then at sometime in the future. Engagement is the first step, the relationship the second and the sale often comes later, so work out a way to keep them in your sphere of business.

Remember they'll buy from you because you engaged first.

Now Saul happens to be one of the best guys for taglines - and I love "Puppy Love Presents".

I'm going to take a slightly different tack to this- and look at you as "Santa in Skirts" as it were. Christmas is coming after all, so there's no reason not to use this as a starting point for my brainstorming!

Filling your dog's stocking [more tagliney, but that's just how the process goes!]

thankyou Saul & Moriarty for your input. I am leaning towards PuppyLoveGifts also but am thinking that it may limit my market. Do you think I would be better to incorporate the word Dog or K9? I would like to sell the baskets all though the year so a general name would be of better benefit but Moriarty the christmas names will be great for the christmas season and have jotted them down in for future reference.
    cheers Rhonda
