Know-How Exchange : Taglines/Names

Confusion always occurs in marketing when you haven't a focus - and the focus for the business is who you sell to. Work out what they want, why they want it and what they want most of - and your tagline will fall out of the tangle as if by magic.

So think why someone would come to your shop instead of the one across the street? Given that there is one ... if not, you'll have to imagine it. Because that way you can work out what makes you better than them - even if it's not much, it'll mean a lot to a great number of people. People who will truly appreciate your service.

May I ask how you're going to establish your guarantee? My point is that it'll be of more value to your visitors/customers if this is alluded to in your tagline. The point is that you can expand on this later in your website copy - and your visitors will have been prepared to read it.

thanks for your enthusiastic responses! I'm glad that you're going to stand behind your guarantee; with your better class of customer it'll work a treat. Just watch out for serial claimants: they're bad clients. You'll need to counter this in some way (I do this by suggesting that if they want their money back, they don't get to use my services in the future - which has plus points too. That is to say, if they want their money back, they didn't value my input, and probably wouldn't have in the first place. Knowing who they are is an important element in excluding them in my sales process).

So - a few ideas.

Guaranteed the best price:quality value on the planet [I'm not sure if the planet has a legal department - take care!]
Our products are the best. Or your money back.


Do you like any of these? Please be warned that they are easy to copy - and once this kind of thing starts, you'll find that you have a few in town doing it too. You will need a backup to this tactic that's more about who you are - because when this is copied, it means that your competition will shoot itself in the foot. Because they can't do what you're best at. Now if getting the best quality in town just happens to be the thing you're good at (and your being Indian speaks to that ability - if you want anything in Africa, ask an Indian merchant. It may cost you, but they'll get it for you if it means they have to travel to find it - but find it they will. Fantastic service for birthday parties in the bush, by the way). So have a VERY CAREFUL think about the things you can do that nobody else in town (or your region) can do. Guarantee that, and you're unbeatable.
