Inspiration Naming My Yoga Studio

Posted by jheaney99 on 250 Points
I stumbled across this amazing group via a Google search looking for INSPIRATION NAMING MY YOGA STUDIO. I noticed that there are similar threads, but I am hoping there are some new and fresh ideas out there. Every time we think we came up with a brilliant idea, someone else has already thought of it before us. We are finalizing the deal in the next couple of weeks and need to come up with a name quickly - we have exhausted all of our ideas.

My partner and I are building a new yoga studio on the second floor of a three story building in the heart of a physically active lakeside community just outside Toronto, Canada. Our studio is approximately 1500 square feet and equipped with two bright regular temperature yoga studios, full locker/change room facilities and a tea bar. We offer a wide range of Hatha yoga classes including regular flow, restorative, pre and post natal, kids, seniors and couples yoga.

We are looking for a gender neutral name that would appeal to everyone from teenagers to seniors and everyone in between. We would also like the name to be transferable to other locations if we choose to expand our business down the road … not just specific to this location.

Our goal is to create an environment that feels like a second home to our yoga community, in the spirit of the “Cheers” bar – where everyone knows your name.

Many thanks for your help ... looking forward to hearing your ideas!

P.S. On a side note, perhaps someone could help answer this question: How important is it to have a totally unique name in terms of Google searches and other considerations? If there is a studio in the United States with a .com name, can we use the same name with a .ca (as long as it is not trademarked)?

    Perfect Balance Hatha Yoga
    Flowing Union Hatha yoga

Do you tend to go more to the spiritual side of things, or somewhere else?

Hi Mike - thank you for your response.

Although we respect and uphold the spirituality of yoga, our studio has more of a spa/wellness centre vibe - simple, relaxing decor with soothing colours and lighting. Hope that helps.

Ideally, choose a name that doesn't have any confusion with an existing (yoga) business. You don't want to send your prospective clients to them nor be associated with them in case they are "in the news" for the wrong reasons.

    Home For Yoga
    Escape To Yoga
    Mind-Body Vacations

To steer clear of existing names, consider using a name connected with your studio's location: a street name, lake name, suburb name. As for use of a dot com with a .ca, it depends on who may already own any name you attempt to use. If there IS a matching .com in the USA, a polite letter or call to the existing owner stating no intention to compete may go a long way to help you.

Jay Hamilton-Roth - thank you for putting into perspective the importance of coming up with an unique name for my yoga studio. I've been working on this project for almost a year and all the pieces are falling into place ... except for the name. All the good ones are already taken :(
