Help! Need A Good Campaign Name

Posted by jjbean on 100 Points
Hi. I need to come up with a good name for my Climate Change campaign. It will be a petition. We are looking to get teens to sign a letter to their local representitive to tell them they are not happy with the proposed coal expansions. Which will greatly contribute to climate change and go against their election "promises". So, something that is going to pull people along/engage with them.

Two ideas we have right now are: Representives Stand up For Our Future?
or Representitives Stand Up for our Future, Say no to Coal

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!

    Representatives where?

How do you know that teens are not happy?

Did the teens you mention vote in any recent election?

Will the teens vote in the future elections?

Expansion of coal in what way?

How will this expansion impact climate change? Based on what data?

If the people you're targeting are saying no to coal, what do you want them to say yes to?

If people do say no to coal, what will the short term costs be in terms of jobs and local or regionalized economic stability?

Long range, how realistic is it to expect these people to say yes to whatever option you'll present as an alternative? Bear in mind that if you're talking about long range investment in solar power, the US is nowhere near the cutting edge of the technology (that honor goes to China and India). Nor is it likely to be in any such position within the next five years.

If would be government (elected representatives). the teens are to young to vote that is part of the letter - how it is their future and the government isn't making the best choices.

We are simply asking them to say "No" to increasing the coal exports as they are all going straight to China. We are not discussing other viable options.

It will greatly affect climate change as burning fossil fuels is the biggest/main contributor to climate change. (coal is a fossil fuel)

It is counter productive to ask for something (reducing coal extraction) without giving an alternative. You place signatories of your petition in a situation where they have nothing to campaign for by dint of ginning them nothing to bargain with. This is one of the basic elements of negotiation.

Thank you: I'm well aware that coal is a fossil fuel. Investment in coal burning fume scrubbing systems can reduce emissions from coal burning power stations. Where are these coal exports going to China FROM?

If you are trying to raise awareness and inspire, I agree with Gary that you need to give them an alternative and something to work toward. The campaign could be a pro-ecology theme, with sub-slogans that either promote certain items (more solar usage, globe-friendly packaging, local food sourcing) and a few anti-approaches (no to coal). The whole reason for this is that if you do succeed in getting the coal exporting stoppped, then what? Where do you use all of this positive momentum? Do you have to start a new campaign with a new focus? Or do you already have a campaign you can funnel the energy on to the next focus?

If you are still stuck on a singular focus against this specific action, then use something that will raise an eyebrow, maybe take some advice from documentaries:
"No More Dirty Secrets - No Coal Exports".

FYI - There's a new environmental documentary out "Apocalypse, Man". That evokes to me more immediacy than "stand up for our future, say no to coal". Just food for thought.
