Name For A 5k Run For Postpartum Depression

Posted by jhanley on 125 Points
Hello,

I need to come up with a name for a 5k running race that is being held to raise funds and shed some light on postpartum depression. The goal is to increase awareness about the issue and get people talking openly about it.

I've thought of things like:

Race for Light

Race from Darkness

Shining Light 5k

As you can see, I'm not coming up with anything great! Does anyone have any suggestions? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks so much,

Jayne

I'm not so sure you need a "great" name. You need a name that suggests the solution, or the benefit, not the problem. For me, "Race for Light" does the job just fine. "Race from Darkness" doesn't, because it references the problem instead of the solution.

You can follow the same approach in a tagline that suggests the positive aspect. Example:

    Race for Light
    Embracing New Motherhood

I understand the desire to tackle the subject openly and directly, but I've learned from years of involvement with mental health issues that the overt mention of an illness (like postpartum depression) triggers a negative or defensive reaction in most people. Why do that in promoting the race? Start with the benefit; then you can explain the goal to a receptive audience.
