Training Company Subsidiary Naming

Posted by enigma on 75 Points
I am setting up separate companies for each of two new business areas for vocational training in hospitality and building trades under my existing company, "XXX Regional Institute Inc." (We currently offer more professional, certification type courses.)

Any ideas for names which tie in with the parent company name yet are distinctive enough to stand alone?

    A few questions:

Do you have names for the "more professional, certification type courses?" If so, can you simply follow the same naming convention for the new training courses?

Why are the new training programs considered separate companies, and not just additional offerings of XXX Regional Institute?

Is XXX a geographic area, someone's name, or a descriptive word? (Maybe XXX precludes hospitality and building trades?)

The companies will be set up individually as they will have their own cost centres, staff, training facilities, tutors, programmes etc. They will be "trade schools" with an entirely different audience to our corporate, professional students.

XXX is a descriptive word which does not preclude either business area but it would make the new name very long and I wondered if it would be overkill to use it several times. ie XXX School of this or XXX Centre for that.

Given the very different target audiences and the established identity of the existing company, I'm not sure there is much value in keeping or referencing the XXX name for the new companies. You certainly don't want to have to explain why a professional certification training company is in the vocational training business. Could be confusing (image-wise) for the current audience and the new ones.

I'd do what's best for the two new companies, and not burden them with having to somehow tie-in to XXX.
