Name For A Meditation Class/course +tag Line.

Posted by Chela on 250 Points
Hi guys, I need a name for meditation class/course. The aim of the class is to instruct students how to learn to build internal or psychological resilience then develop this into a regular home practice. Target group for this type of thing I have found is women, young profs and middle age degree educated types. Also stressed people/anxiety attack suffers, some people are referred by their psychs. Also people interested in spirituality. Thanks in advance.

Do you already have a business name and just want to name this particular course? Or are you looking to name the business whose sole product is this course? It makes a difference from the perspective of naming. If you have a business name already, we need to know what it is. And it would really help if we know where your target audience lives.

As a separate matter, it would be good if we could reference (in the name) the BENEFIT your target audience should expect. That means you need to think about what the most important market segment is and what benefit would be most relevant and important for them. Have you done that? Can you share your thoughts with us?

Mgoodman, Actually no biz name as yet would really be grateful for your ideas on that. The biz incorporates training in certain healing therapies as well as meditation and may later expand into yoga classes. The question initially related to the course as if I just advertise it as meditation it will simply blend in with the competition. My audience lives in Perth a city in Australia, pop of about a million, Looking at middle to upper income people. The main benefit would be developing internal strength I.e mental/emotional resilience to deal with stress and general unhappiness. The main benefit of the business over all would be the same as the course plus physical ailments also treated. Thanks for that Mgoodman.

You wrote: "The main benefit would be developing internal strength I.e mental/emotional resilience to deal with stress and general unhappiness."

That could be a tough sale because the benefit is removing a negative, and there's no good way to communicate it without stating the negative. Since people remember the words you use, they are likely to associate you with stress and general unhappiness -- not the elimination of same.

Even if we stick with "developing internal strength" I'm not sure most folks would recognize that as a benefit without explanation. "What would I do with internal strength?" "How do I know if I need that?"

I'll have to think about this one. Are you aware of how successful meditation instructors pitch the benefit(s) they offer? Surely you are not the first person to offer this kind of service. Who would be a good role model for this (in another market)? We might as well learn from those who have gone before.

I'm actually a believer, and I don't know how I would explain the benefit to someone else in a convincing way.

Absolutely, have had similar thoughts which led me to you guys. I've seen some success for people using the 'were all about science none of this hippy bs' style all their instructors are shown to be psychologists or similar. Their websites look like their from a government dept detaching from traditional perceptions about what is meditation. They instruct very simple 'mindfulness' techniques which is good but it's like trying to teach a language but only using verbs. High end expensive. On the other hand Their are a million yoga instructors who advertise it but unfortunately often they are as much about dressing up as an Indian swami as teaching you anything useful. Not many run regular stand alone classes successfully, I don't no of any. Then their are Buddhist and other religious groups who are free and generally much better technically but limit learning to outsiders and everything comes clothed in their particular religious practices. People tend to think that you are selling religion/snake oil/ or fashionable ideas. I think meditation is often pitched as part of something else a course that offers xyz and meditation but I'm not sure if it's so successful. Luckily you seem to like a challenge! I will do some research thanks again for your insight.

Mgoodman, here's a thought. The underpinning key aspect of practicing these meditations is the removing of negative or unhelpful character traits such as say for instance jealousy and building into your mind the positive opposite over time. So you could say something about positive change, building positivity into your life, changing out of negative life patterns into a life with more happiness(which you will do by building virtues and removing vices) Essentially you are learning ancient methods to not so much control as reshape your own feelings and behaviours into a much healthier and rewarding life. I hope that gives you another useful angle that can be squeezed into two or three words of marketing genius. Thanks again.

Thanks for your efforts guys but I think the question is still unanswered. Maybe I will have to focus on a name for the business and just list meditation as some thing we offer rather than a stand alone course. Thanks again.
