I'm Looking For Help On A 50th Anniversary Tagline

Posted by linda on 250 Points
Public Radio station WGLT in Normal, IL turns 50 in 2016. We've tweaked our format over those 50 years, but the constants have been:
1. an important community asset and partner
2. quality programming
3. an award-winning newsroom and top quality entertainment
We are the only independent news source in our community (all other radio stations are part of conglomerates) and are viewed as an important contributor to the quality of life in our community.

What's the purpose of your tagline? Are you looking to celebrate 50 years, or convey something special about the station? To your listeners? To funders? To advertisers? Do you already have a tagline (if so, why change it)?

Jay is getting at the purpose of the tagline. If it's just to tell the community that the station is old, why bother? I'll bet the station is older than the majority of listeners or the primary target of your advertisers.

Why not focus on the real value you bring to the community -- the reason people listen to your station, the benefit you deliver, the way your listeners FEEL about you? That will have lasting value and not be outdated a year from now.
