Based on what you learned in school, what would YOU do? How would you approach the problem if this was a homework assignment? What research have you done about efforts in the past and efforts that your competition has done? What are your customers wanting? Start from the basics, and build your case.

Positioning is at the core of branding, and positioning requires that you understand your target audience at a deep level. Who are they? Where are they? What's important to them? Learn their needs, values, habits, practices, and attitudes toward/awareness of your company and your competitors.

Understand what makes you unique -- different from, and better than, your competitors -- and the important end-benefit that only you deliver.

Conduct an honest and thorough SWOT analysis.

Then make sure you understand how success will be measured. Is the budget adequate to accomplish the mission?

And remember that a brand isn't just a name or a slogan. It's what your target audience really thinks in their own minds. That includes their experience dealing with you, what they've heard from friends and colleagues, what they've read in the press, how you present yourself, and more.

"Branding" as a marketing strategy only works if the actual product/service lives up to the promise represented by the "brand."

Reminder - you do not make a brand - only your customers 'make a brand'. You take what Mr.Goodman offers, differentiate and make things better for/to your customers. They in-turn will make your brand
