Need Catchy Name For Faith Based Volunteer Groups

Posted by llaughrey on 250 Points
I am the Director of Volunteer Resources for a Catholic organization in Tulsa, Oklahoma and am looking for a powerful, action based name for our group of regular recurring volunteers (top priority) and would love a better name for our episodic volunteers.

We have about 400 regular recurring volunteers, and 3,300 additional episodic volunteers each year. The regular volunteers have been called just that, regular volunteers, and the episodic volunteers have been called guest volunteers because they might just come once or twice a year.

While we are indeed Catholic and I love faith related names, about 50% of our volunteers are not, and 85% of the clients we serve are not so I don't want a name that would alienate anyone.

The types of services we provide to our community are vast: emergency food and clothing, immigration attorneys, migration refugee services, dental clinic, pregnancy clinic, adult education classes, counseling, adoption, hospice, lunch program, residential housing for pregnant women and single moms, long term disaster assistance and more.

The average regular volunteer donates their time once a week and includes professionals donating their time in their skill set such as doctors, dentists, lawyers, etc.

Our organization's mission is to be Christ's merciful love to those who suffer.

To give an example of the action based types of names I'm looking for, when I worked for a zoo, my volunteer groups were named the Wildbunchers, the Rainforest Rangers and the Zooper Troopers.

My initial thoughts are along the lines of:

Champions of Catholic Charities
Catholic Charities Change Makers

I appreciate any and all ideas, advice and suggestions.

Thank you!

Instead of "Catholic" you might consider "Community" as the focus of your mission.

    Community Champions
    Community ChangeMakers

Why does the name have to be "catchy"? What might your response be if I asked your belief to be more faithy? What traits have meaning and relevance for your attendees? Therein lies your answer.

I'd ask the volunteers themselves - you don't want to impose a name without their commitment and buy-in; or worse, to choose a name they object to.
