Determining Product Line Name

Posted by lalitasauceandspice on 125 Points
Hello...

I am starting a sauce and spice product line and after mowing a name for my line over in my mind. I keep coming back to naming it (Lalita's) which is my first name.

I find it to be unique and bold... My question is:

Is it a good idea to name a product line after yourself? Each recipe was created by me however I will be introducing other cooking items, food products and a cookbook in the future. I want to be certain the name will work for the entire line.

Thank you...

The pros of using your name: It's unlikely you will have any problem registering the name or getting an appropriate domain name. You can extend it to almost anything else you decide to do in the future. It's easy/available, no need to engage in an extensive project to find the right name.

The cons of using your name: To most people it doesn't mean anything unless you are already well-known. It's a missed opportunity to position your product or tell folks why they should consider buying it. If you are successful in making the name well-known to your target audience you could confuse everyone when you put that same name on a different product or service. You will need to spend a lot of money to generate awareness, because the name doesn't evoke an emotion or a mental image.
