Do Your Bit!!

Posted by Anonymous on 500 Points
Hi,
I am a student of an MBA College in India. However this is not a question related to academics.
I am the founder and President of the Social Responsibility Forum(SRF) of our college. This forum was started last year and as of now it is not only the most popular but also the most active cell in our college. we have more than 150 active members and we are already expanding by setting up SRFs in many other colleges. We are involved in conducting socially relevant events, we have a structured program whic helps provide education to underprivileged children, we conduct regular blood donation and clothes donation camps and we have also set up a consulting division through which we help leading NGO's solve their problems regarding marketing, branding etc. of their products, prepare business plans, set-up proper organizational practices etc. We are growing at a tremendous pace and hence are in constant need of funds. Our tagline until now has been "DO YOUR BIT" which basically asks people to do whatever they can to help even if they dont wish to go out of the way to do so. Even a small gesture helps.

However, I have been told by a few people to consider changing this slogan and also to consider re-barnding SRF. As of now SRF is very well know in our campus and is growing to have branches in more colleges. I would like your advice regarding three things:

a) Should I go in for a change in my slogan ("DO YOUR BIT") If yes, then what slogan would you suggest.

b) Should I also change my cell's name (currently know as SRF) If yes, then what would you suggest.

c) To help us collect funds, we screen movies, stage plays, have jam sessions etc. in our college auditorium and sell the tickets at a very nominal rate. We use the proceeds to fund an orphanage in Bombay. As of now we call this weekly event SRF NIGHTS. It is just 2 months old but we have managed to collect substantial funds. I was looking for a slogan/tagline for this event as well. What would you suggest? Remember that even though the end-purpose is to help an orphanage, we wis to position this as a weekly evening where you can come and chill out and enjoy. The fact that you are doing something for the society is just an added benefit.

I am looking forward to your suggesstions. Please feel free to ask me any questions that you might have.

"Do Your Share" is good. Also consider:

    "Do Your Part"
    "Make a Difference"
    "Leave a Mark"
    "Improve a Life"

ps. I relocated your question to the Taglines/Names category to give it the right exposure on the forum.

    Shaan,

Do Your Bit.... sounds great to me. I am guessing the English is British and so terms like "Have a go" and such would resonate to your audience. Here in the U.S. "Do Your Bit" might not be the best choice. I suggest you have fun and conduct your own on campus and off campus focus groups to test the reaction to your current tagline. Always consider your audience and does your tagline or organization name have any "sticky-ness" to it. As with all things the audience will determine if SRF stands for something grand or not. Green Peace...Amnesty International...Sierra Club...all well known brands to the audience it is meant to reach. My grandmom....she has no clue what these are but she can tell your her favorite cleaning detergent brands...and by the way she thinks Oxyclean is a great name but only because the product works and delivers on it's promise. Concern yourself with the work your org. is doing and the values your org. has and the SRF name and tagline will stand for something great if you are achieving great things.

I am sure you are aware that in the UK, these organisations go under the "Business in the Community" and I think they use the tagline "Responsible Business" whicg I think says it all.

    You could either :

    1. Contact bitc and seek their independant advice on your project
    2. Just tweak their ideas and use them.

ps. I think its a great thing that you are doing btw.

    Good Luck
