Name And Tagline For Wireless Product

Posted by Anonymous on 125 Points
I need a tagline and name for a wireless (radio based)data collection system. It's target market is SPC professionals that need absolutely no data failures in a mechanically hostile (metal machining) environment - oil, corrosives, water immersion, electric noise, metal chips flying around, etc.. We are a venerable name in the industry known for the highest quality products and lifetime service for our products. Wired products pose safety and access issues in this environment, wireless eliminates these. Competitors solutions are inferior today. We use many protection mechanisms for insuring safe/intact arrival of the data. It's easy to use, highly scalabe, easy to set up and run.

All suggestions are welcome. Thanks

Sounds similar to SCADA technology. Remote data collection isn't a new thing, and the oil and gas industry has lots of vendors delivering similar wireless systems for rugged environments, too. Okay, moving right along...

I'd avoid using a forgettable acronym for a system name. You probably know that already, though. ;]

Maybe play with some words that your customers are likely to turn into a verb (think for a second about Google -- what have you googled lately?). So if your system is called something like Coldbeam, those SPC geeks might say things like "Have you beamed the plant report yet?"

So... think of words (animal, vegetable, mineral) that convey some of the attributes you've already described about your product (robust, remote, secure, self-reliant). A tank? An armored truck? A hermit crab? A grizzly bear? A military outpost? A spy? A vault? Write down all the crazy ideas you can. Also think of words that convey the action your product performs. "Transmit" is a big yawn. So is "gather." What about beam, fire, shoot, grab, clutch, snap, pour, sift, corral, race, fly, or pop? Crazy, indeed.

Then you can have a good time combining conceptual words into a clear, memorable name and tagline. One idea will inspire another and another. Like:

DataClaw -- Grab your metrics anywhere.

I read your earlier posting about hiring consultants. You can certainly do some of this creative work yourself, but do spend the money getting an IP attorney to do some trademark research and protection once you've got a short list of favorites to work from.

That's it from me. Good luck!

For what it's worth... My last company's name is BirdNest, which is the product/service name, too. People never forget that name. What's the business? Remote data collection, manual input by cell phone, currently in the water utility market.

I named the company myself. Later we paid a marketing firm big fat sums of money to help us with naming and branding, and you know what their final suggestion was? "Stick with BIRDNEST."
