New Name For Maternity Fashion Brand!

Posted by Anonymous on 250 Points
Hi

6 months ago I developed a new name for a client - a maternity wear company, moving from business wear into general maternity fashion. Due to budget restrictions they were going to develop the new brand, sort out trademarking etc. in-house. Just got a call, they only just checked the trademarks - they can't use the name we came up with and are due to go to print on new brochure etc. at the end of this week!

I've used various name generator sites etc. but am hoping to tap into the creative genius of the KHE as well.

The target customer is women (obviously!), 25-40, professionals with above average income who don't want to be seen as a 2nd class citizen / compromise on style just because they're pregnant.

The name should convey quality, style and femininity. Looking for a sense of freshness and new beginnings. They don't want to be too literal e.g. no words like 'bump'!

Competitors in the UK market tend to have women's names or use french or italian words associated with maternity / motherhood etc.

By the way, the name we came up with which they liked but couldn't use was 'Isis' (Greek Goddess of Fertility!), others were 'Eden' and 'Baha' (Gaellic for 'life').

Thank you!!

After the morning sickness, I enjoyed being pregnant. Now my babies are teenagers...

ANYWAY, you mentioned the UK market and the predilection for European names. I don't do translations, but there are a lot of possibilities here!

Also, try www.dogpile.com to test potential trademarks -- it searches over a number of sites and let's you know the frequency of use. No guarantee, but a great start.

AND REMEMBER -- trademarking is about avoiding consumer confusion. The category you are vying for is important. If the name is taken, say, in diet food, and you want it for maternity wear, it will not confuse buyers. I recommend that the company get a GOOD trademark attorney -- but if you do a bit of research via dogpile, your chances may go up!

since the target consumers want to be stylish, how about these...

    "Style 9"

    "Grace 9"

    "Glamour"

    "Glitz"

    "Freedom"

    "Bond"

    hope that helps.

    cheers!!

I'm very impressed by the variety and quality of the ideas.

One suggestion - if you are going to use a number, make it 6 (note the resemblance to the pregnant belly? There's the basis for your logo ...)

As for brand names, how about "Gravid" or "Gravid D"?
